Season 5 is awful. For the first few episodes the writers are clearly just trying to copy Sorkin, and the rest of the season is just dull. The Supremes is the best episode of that season, by far.
Halfway through season 6 it's like the writers realized they had to change it up or the show was done. Splitting the cast up and switching between White House episodes and Campaign episodes was a brilliant decision, and the writing really improves.
Season 7 is awesome, and easily up there with seasons 2 & 3 as my favourites.

Halfway into season six. I never enjoyed this season. Previously it felt clunky and poorly written.
It’s not. It’s a ramshackle campaign trying to find its legs. It’s written exactly as it needs to be.

I do a full rewatch every year or two. It doesn't feel dated to me, but with every passing year it makes me sad that politics isn't this hopeful and optimistic.
I didn't watch in 2023 so I'm ready to start it again. Perhaps I'll rewatch Sopranos first.
