People die of cancer every day and yet we/you continue to use toxic chemicals in the every day goods you use and burn fossil fuels. We/you chose convenience and commerce every time and then berate people who adopt that same philosophy for Covid.
There are a lot of people doing significant work to reduce and eliminate toxic chemicals and the use of fossil fuels.
surfndestroy wrote:As Rangi said in this thread, the Aussi flu season killed the fewest people in a long time. Should Australia close shop forever to continue to save lives? Or just make those lives fodder to convenience and commerce once a Covid vaccine is to be had?
Should we stop commerce until we get to zero deaths from respiratory diseases? No. COVID has killed 6-7 times as many Americans in 6 months as influenza kills in 12 (apologies for not knowing stats anywhere else). To me, that warrants temporarily damaging the economy to stop. The risk that we've always lived with from flu is not the same as the risk from COVID.

Even saying that, my post didn't advocate any particular action, so assuming that I'd like to fully close Australia's economy is disingenuous. At this point, I think I'm at the point of just lamenting that we didn't take action when we had a chance to take it.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Point me to the experts who have been right about the virus Stickbot? All their charts from the spring were wrong. Yet, they all go on tv and with a straight face say follow me, follow the science. It reminds me of the neurologists I've seen. Neurologists don't know shit about the brain but they sure act like they do.

Which charts are you thinking of? A lot of our predicting assumptions early on were based on the behaviors of the closest related viruses, because you can’t have knowledge about a thing you’ve never encountered before, but I’d be interested in looking back at early days assumptions and predictions and explore how they’ve evolved with experience (except where the predictions were wrong because they assumed a level of public adherence to safety and care).
Yet, they all go on tv and with a straight face say follow me, follow the science. It reminds me of the neurologists I've seen. Neurologists don't know shit about the brain but they sure act like they do.
Do you feel the same about all medical professions? Say, cardiologists?

Cardiologists are like reputable car mechanics. They know engines, and they fix them. Neurologists are like the Geek Squad when you bring in a boot looping cell phone to Best Buy.

Like I said, MAGA 100%.

Who said it was about being right? What, you're angry that what's happening now wasn't forewarned in explicit detail 6 months ago? Please.

Scientists draw conclusions based on the data they've received at the time. It is not a "welp, here's the one answer we're gonna give you, so go with it". New information is received, the science is updated. This is ongoing.

but by all means, continue with your "hands in the air" approach.

A Canadian saying "MAGA, 100%" to an actual American who does not support Trump is peak 2020, by the way.

There are points in time that maybe scientists should say "we don't have enough data to have an informed opinion,"

Looks like the Trudeau government was knowingly downplaying the risks of Covid just the same as Trump was doing.

Aren't we all complicit in MAGA. We either provided and still provide the breeding ground for MAGA, or actively support MAGA. We are MAGA.
