Plant based meat substitutes

Post by E.H. Ruddock »

I've been exploring this improved product lately. Please forgive me if we already have a thread, I couldn't find it.

I'm a huge hamburger fan, so I was skeptical tonight, but I cooked some plant based patties on the grill and seasoned them the way I would my burgers. They were delicious.

Do any of you have any favorite brands? I'm looking forward to trying a chicken substitute next for some chicken parm

I'm no use to you product wise but the beetroot and black bean patties are a success in my house. The only part that I feel is missing is the grease and fat aspect of the burger.

I know a hardcore vegan who was a huge fan of the impossible Whopper, said it was the closest thing they had had to a real burger in years.

The beyond burgers are pretty good, though I don't think they really capture meat. It's best to treat it as its own experience if you're not veggie/vegan.

One of the best burgers I ever had, veggie or otherwise, was a sweet potato black eyed pea mix.

I had an impossible Whopper. I could tell the difference, but it was good. It was also had all the fat, calories, and salt of the original, so since I'm not a vegetarian, I didn't see the point.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

We had the Beyond Meat brand last night. It was delicious and pretty much tasted like any burger I'd season and cook, it was even juicy. The only difference being you can tell a little bit of that fat/grease taste isn't there. And I'm exploring this option not for health reasons but more moral reasons. I'm looking forward to trying the Beyond Meat brats I bought.

Ground beef isn't even the problem. We slaughter cows for steaks and sell the scraps as ground beef.

Not to disparage you. Any time you eat less beef, that could be less animals farmed and slaughtered, but you gotta find a steak substitute to really make an impact.

I don't think your four steak a year habit is damaging the environment or causing excessive animal death.

I've fished all my life and hunted when I was a kid. But after my military days I don't much like pointing and shooting at things. If the apocalypse comes I'll get it done, but maybe I'm mentally afraid and physically lazy until then

Also I'm not just doing this for beef. I've been pretty turned off by chicken and pork lately as well. I'll never give up fish though
