Stylistically, it reminds me of that big Robbie Williams hit from 10 or 15 years ago. Angel was it?

I can't see this as a single, especially at 5:40, nor it blowing up, whatsoever...but I'm fine with all that. Just give me the weird ones, asap, Infallible, Pendulum, etc.

Agreed, but it's awfully close. I really can't say I like the production on this at all.
The people who hated Last Kiss being such a huge hit are going to want to hang themselves when this blows up.
Disagree.
The song's not based on the chorus, it's based on the "hear the sirens" part in the intro verse, which acts as a pseudo-chorus. The whole song's based on that. After the first chorus, it comes back without the vocal and it initiates a listener response.
Song will be big (in relative terms - for Pearl Jam), but not as big as Last Kiss.

Which kind of sums up how dated this tune sounds.

Loving it after a few listens.
I find Ed's delivery enough to keep it real even if the over production tries to take it elsewhere. Another keeper for me.

They've done the same thing as they did with ATW, stuck a pointless solo in there. But it's fine.Strat wrote:harmless wrote:No, they're good. Get on board with this, Strat.Strat wrote:I do really like the verses though.

I was expecting more Pink Floyd weirdness. This needs actual sirens over it, with some snippets of movie dialogue, and then we'd have Floyd. We mostly have Top 40 here. But I really like the pre-pre-chorus.
Overall, whether you like it or not, I feel as if they're making a bigger statement with this album than they did on Backspacer.

I'd really love to hear more than the 30-second sample Rdio seems to be providing for me.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Me too. Ed definitely keeps it downbeat and works against the overall wash of cheesiness.sward wrote:Loving it after a few listens.

Lines like "We live our lives with death over our shoulders" keep it Pearl Jam.

I said it about one of the other songs too, they sound vaguely mid-2000s. I don't know whats going on.WtOB? wrote:i could see this being a hit in, like, 2004 or something. around the time that hoobastank "reason" song was hanging around.Monkey_Driven wrote:This tune won't blow up. There would have been a good song in here, with some heavier guitars and a different vocal melody. It's not even a bad song per se, but it doesnt sound like pearl jam, and not it a wow they're experimenting kinda way.
What the fuck Eddie. C'mooonn, he kept his love for cheesy radio crap hidden for almost 20 years, why unveil it now?
GooGoo Doll's thats what it sounds like.
