You're onto something here.harmless wrote:The production sounds very Ten, it's just that the chords don't.
Matt's drums sound like Dave Krusen's.

I feel as if this is the song which will help you decide whether PJ was Ed for you, primarily, or not.Strat wrote:and then Vedder came and saved the day...

This. I actually really like the song but mostly because Ed sounds amazing and the lyrics have some sadness and a bit of depth. I can see why people don't like it as a Pear Jam song, but simply as a song I think it's pretty cool.Mine wrote:Eddie's delivery is the one thing that is above good on this.Jaeti wrote:Ed's the hero here. It feels like Pearl Jam won a TV competition to get a makeover

I can also get behind this sentiment.

I was just thinking about how the production sounds like Ten.
Imagine if this song was on Ten? hahha
I think a lot of Ed's work on soundtracks and such has given way to songs like these. And I'm not complaining, I think the songs amazing other than the production and solo. There have been times in PJ's past where I'll hear a song deplete of any true melody and think..man Ed...just give into the song and sing your little heart out goddamit. Well he does here and I think its awesome. Refreshing that there was no holding back.
Still..the solo...eek.

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
I think my view is fairly well-known that for me, PJ has been just Ed (and Jeff, I guess) since Dave A. left. That doesn't mean I don't think the others have contributed crucial stuff, but I don't think they've done that more or less than any other musicians could have.stupidmop wrote:An Emphatic 'Fuck No' seems to be my answer. The dude is married with kids now. He hated his wife/gf and wanted to take a bullet to the head back then. Yeh, he's changed.McParadigm wrote:

But, grand scheme - I disagree. This song is about a topic I could see him having tackled back in the day (being caught and waiting for an emergency response team to rescue him). I just think he wouldn't have approached it from the same point of view (because he hated his wife, didn't have kids, etc). Now there's a kid there and he's talking to either his child or his wife.

It's a Mike song, so the solo is forgiveable for me because he's a big cheeseball.sward wrote:harmless wrote:The production sounds very Ten, it's just that the chords don't.

But if this song had been on Binaural, it would've been a hell of a lot more paired back. On Ten? Probably not.
Guys, there's a xylophone on this.

Wow........maybe it's cause I'm getting older........maybe cause I lost my Mother not long ago..........maybe it's alot of things.......my perceptions on so many things have changed......but fuck if I don't love this. Yes it's not what they normally would have done, but hell, the fact that they did this, and did it well.....it's great. I'd take a flaming from this entire board, and still be very comfortable with this song.
