My Facebook thread is full of 2016/2020 quotes from McConnell, Cruz, Graham, and who the fuck ever else.

People know that the Republicans didn't think you should replace a Justice in an election year, and they all changed their minds mightily this week.

If anyone gave a shit about their Senators having a point of view, we wouldn't be in the situation we're in. We have a racist, rapist criminal President elected by super-Jesus Christians. Don't try to convince Facebook friends to have a brain.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

If they fail at getting a Justice AND lose in November, we'll they'll still only be down 2 or 3 seats worse than they would have been had they done nothing.
This seems accurate to their way of thinking.
Maybe pushing forward excites the base and they win in November, then they get a Justice, a President, and the Senate.
This does not. Remember when the Kavanaugh fight was going to be a game changer that destroyed Democratic leads in 2018, but actually wasn’t at all?

The thing is, an uninspired base is the only problem they DONT have right now. Their problem is that the current numbers are the result of a fired up base and a small spattering of moderate remainers. Reacquiring some moderates (especially in the burbs) is their only hope...and moderates aren’t moved much either way by Supreme Court fights.
WHY ARE YOU SO HOPEFUL
I try to be pragmatic. There’s still a lot that could go wrong...Democrats could stumble into a religion/court fight over a nominee, for one thing. But I’m more concerned with things like voting access and pre-emptive election night victory claims than I am any potential polling change, seeing as the polling hasn’t changed since March. And on the subject of supreme court fight impacts on a high stakes, high engagement election, we have fresh, direct precedence we can point to. That precedence tells us it doesn’t change much.

She’s excellent. She’s Hispanic. She’s a terrific woman from everything I know. I don’t know her. Florida. We love Florida. So she’s got a lot of things — very smart,” Trump said in a call-in interview with “Fox and Friends.”

Asked whether politics would play a role in the decision, Trump responded: “I try not to say so. I think probably automatically it is. Even if you’re not wanting to do that it becomes a little automatic.”

I fucking hate him so much.

Exactly. Mitch would love to rub it in the Dems’ faces.

There are no real requirements to be a SCJ, so it’s actually pretty easy to see Trump do something like that.

There's a good 2 minutes of various Republican Senators arguing against nominating a Justice in an election year starting at the 10 minute mark.

The GOP has made the SCOTUS into a joke. Why would anyone respect it at this point? When this country burns will conservatives on SCOTUS matter?

Erin Burnett is great in this clip. She plays Sen. Barrasso's rant from 2016 and when it stops she just looks at the camera and says, "Things have changed?"
