Jimmy deep down isn't confident enough to shoot 25 times in a playoff game if that's what the situation calls for. He wants to shoot free throws and pass, then hide behind the team player/initiator cornball talk.4/5 wrote:Putting Marcus Smart on Goran Dragic is the move of this series so far. I feel like either series could be 2-1 for the other team.4/5 wrote:I'm terrified. Miami doesn't need him to do that. Unless he's scorching hot like game 1 against the Bucks that's probably a recipe for disaster. I think he does need to step up and put pressure on the Celtics defense, though. Especially any time Smart or Brown isn't on him. Ideally he'd come out and score like 10 points in the first quarter and just draw attention from the defense for the rest of the game, opening up looks for everybody else.verb_to_trust wrote:Jimmy deep down isn't confident enough to shoot 25 times in a playoff game if that's what the situation calls for. I mean, he can score 10 in the first quarter I guess but the line would be like 1-4 FG and 8/8 from the line.4/5 wrote:Miami doesn't need him to do that. When people like me have said that Jimmy can't be the best player on a championship team it's because he can't get his own offense for an entire playoff game after a coach like Brad has made adjustments. He can absolutely close a game for you, but if you need him to produce for four quarters in the playoffs he's not capable of doing that outside of a random game here or there.

I'd be thrilled with that as his first quarter stat line. I don't disagree with you about his style but it works for this team. I don't think Miami needs him to score 30. They need him to put pressure on the defense and to be somebody Stevens has to account for at all times. When Boston went super small in game 3 they killed Miami. In those spots Brown or Smart will be glued to Bam. Ideally Jimmy would have shown enough by that point that the other one will be on him. This leaves Tatum, Hayward, and Kemba to guard some combo of Dragic, Herro, Robinson, and Crowder, and I like the Heat's chances in that case.verb_to_trust wrote: I mean, he can score 10 in the first quarter I guess but the line would be like 1-4 FG and 8/8 from the line.

tl;dr I want Jimmy to show enough offensively early to be a legit decoy and just occupy a good defender for most of the game while other guys most of the scoring.
