In all the political seasons going as far back as Clinton/Dole, I looked forward to the debates.

This year not so much. The vernacular around Trump is so devoid of actual facts, and that the moderator won’t hold them to facts at all, spells misleading disaster all over it. It’s not going to go well for anyone.

sadly i dont think anyone cares about his taxes

but trump would care if they made it a point of emphasis that he is not rich

it would look petty to some

but if they want to set him off, that's the pressure point

he is nothing without his 'money'

make sure people know

he has no money

Yes! The more petty the better with Trump.
Let's see how low he can be taken.

Losses would usually be in the companies. How does Trump as an individual earn a wage and not pay some proportionate level of tax?

I'd find it difficult to believe he had personal losses large enough to eat up his obviously very substantial wage income for so many years.

And surely bankruptcy would forfeit losses in the same way it forfeits claimable expenses? I mean, if you call bankruptcy and that means your creditors can no longer make you pay, surely you can't then continue to rely on those same expenses to then allow carry forward losses.
Why would Trump have any wage income? If he was the pincipal of those enterprises that went bankrupt (and likely was) wouldn't his compensation have been equity in said ventures?
POTUS wage is $400,000pa. He paid $750 in taxes in 2017 - as POTUS.

I take your point re: wages from failed companies. However he still needs to show how he can support himself from a pure, non-deductible personal cost of living perspective. Who's paying for all those costs for him, if not via some form of personal income. Private expenses aren't tax deductible and have to be paid from somewhere.

I'm of course coming at this from an Australian tax perspective, however the basic principles will surely be the same.

Pretty sure he's been donating his Presidential wages to the treasury. Also, whats the likelihood that government officials get taxed at a normal rate as us mere private citizens?

I'm confused, and no one has cleared it up for me, as he paid 1 point something million to the treasury in 2016 and 2.4 million in 2017 and somehow this ends up with him paying $750 in taxes? Are these payments rolling over from previous years or what?

Clearly one must have enough money to pay for a good accountant to figure this shit out.

The Republicans make people care about nothing burgers all the time. For once, the Dems don't have to Poindexter the public with long explanations. 4 characters. $750. Over and over and over for 5 weeks. Whatever other loser strategy the DNC is pushing doesn't matter. $750.

People won't be able to get it out of their heads.

$750.

Remember in the debate with her, he told Hillary not paying takes makes him smart? It had no bearing on the outcome then and it won’t now.

I get why the taxes thing resonates with people, but it’s the liquidating of all his stocks and bonds in 2014 and the taking on of $420 million in short return personal debt that make him appear financially unstable and potentially beholden his creditors.
