Is this not accurate? Didn't he pay millions in differed taxes from previous years in 2016 and 2017? For us normies filing 1040s that doesn't make much sense, but that's truthiness I guess. For fiscal year 2017 I don't imagine he claimed any income other than his Presidential salary.
All individuals only file 1040s even if you are President.
His 2005 1040 is readily available online. It's astounding, but I'm a tax professional. so for me it was really juicy lol. He made 9.5 million in interest alone which means he had a spare $300 million to keep in super safe investments.
I'm just curious about why the even $750 for two tax years. I'd love to see the actual 1040s to decipher it. But to answer your question. He definitely had more on his 1040 than just his salary
Only 1040s? wut?
Aren't there specialized forms for certain investments? 1040 is not the ONLY form filled by anyone that has a investment portfolio worth shaking a stick at.
Also, you didn't respond to my query about carried over payments adding up to millions for those years. Is that false?
There wouldn't be any carried over" payments". What happened was...Generally speaking , when you have a loss that reduces your taxable ncome to below zero , you are allowed to "carry over" that loss and use it against the income of future years up to 18 years. So it sounds like thats what was occuring .
There must have been something going on that he had to pay an even $750 for 2 tax years.
So no, he did not pay millions in taxes for 2016 or 2017, nor did he prepay or "defer" the payments from a previous year.

Maybe I misunderstood the coverage, but my understanding was that he paid the treasury 1 point something million in year 1 and 2 point something in year two. Maybe not tax payments? If not, then what?
Without fully released tax documents and weirdly selective releases, its just not clear whats going on.

He's an accurate reporter and dependable with numbers and figures and what they're for. He absolutely has nothing to hide and will show you. Dependable, trustworthy, President Trump. 4 more years!
stip wrote:Like everyone who watched the debate, my primary take away was that I should have just gone to bed. My secondary takeaway was that it felt like 2020 in a nutshell. My third was thank god my kids didn't watch it. My fourth was to feel embarrassed for Trump supporters. This is your guy? My fifth was to be annoyed with democratic primary voters. That could have been Elizabeth Warren. That could have been Cory Booker. That could have been Bernie Sanders. That could have been any number of strong, impressive candidates. Biden was underwhelming, as he often is. But he was good enough, and in fairness, against that spluttering, petulant, childish bully I'm not sure how strong anyone could have been
A few additional thoughts:
It was terrifying (as has been almost universally recognized) that the President could not denounce White Supremacy, which the FBI has long recognized as the primary domestic terror threat in the United States. The Proud Boys, the group he did shout out, have read his comments (stand down/stand by) as active encouragement - an invitation.
It was equally/more terrifying that even the most basic democratic norms about free and fair elections could not be endorsed by Trump. He spent his time spewing lies about out voting process (which even Republican operatives want him to do because they don't want to discourage mail in republican voting) and could not commit to agreeing to honor the results of the election. This is the most basic, fundamental tenet of democracy and he couldn't do it. Refreshingly enough, in a perverse way, it may have been the one truthful thing he said in a night of nearly constant lies. But as I've argued in earlier posts, it is blindingly clear you cannot both support Trump and support democracy.
I do have a certain admiration for Trump's ability to come after someone else's children over cries of corruption and nepotism. That takes a lack of shameless self-awareness that I could never hope to match. I suspect for the next debate Biden will be ready to hit back with lines about Trump's children. I'm surprised he didn't bust them out here, but I get how someone might forget their playbook when their children are attacked.
According to the pollsters and political scientists who track this stuff, while no one looked good in this debate Trump tracked worse, with Biden's net favorability impression a slight net positive, and Trump's a slightly larger net negative.
Trump came across as an ineffective Bully. Not the kind who might beat you up, but the kind who would kick over your sandcastle if it was nicer than his. Biden did not project a particularly presidential aura (though in the face of this who could?), but he did regularly project human kindness and decency, and his less than presidential moments felt like exacerbated humanity, rather than aggression.
I am not sure what strategy Trump was aiming for here. Biden was not particularly articulate, but he did make coherent points when given the opportunity, which Trump rarely gave him. Trump's supporters at this point have inoculated themselves against his bullshit, and are in the bag for him. The people who are impressed by him don't need to be more impressed. He needed fence sitters to watch Biden and see him stumble. By sabotaging the basic structure of the debate Trump robbed Biden of his chance to fuck up in a big way. Maybe he came out ahead - he did stop Biden from making the case for himself. But Biden is ahead. And he's ahead by a pretty decent margin - not an insurmountable one, but surely a comfortable one. Trump needed to either make the case for himself (which at this point is not going to sway an undecided voter - you know who Trump is), or he needed Biden to fall on his face and eliminate himself as a plausible candidate (the origins behind his effective 'is this guy senile campaign' - effective in that it is good at planting doubts even if it isn't true, and a much better choice than his baffling 'Biden is on drugs' argument).
Where Biden was effective tonight was in appearing to be a human and decent person. Besides executing some very basic debate 101 strategies - actually look at the camera and talk to the audience - he had moments where he came across as a calming and soothing presence. His recognition that his son had a drug problem (that Trump amazingly went after him for. Truly our president is a god-tier asshole) felt like an all too human admission that Trump could never make. Biden felt relatable. He felt trustworthy. Trump, as always, made everything about himself, and tried (and failed, I think) to simultaneously take credit for all that is good in the world while promising to burn it all down. He is the candidate of destruction - a human wrecking ball. And this maybe works when you are a challenger. It doesn't when you are the incumbent and the world has been your responsibility.
When the polls clear we'll see that Biden will get a small bounce. It may linger, it may not. I don't think there were enough game breaking developments, especially in a race with two known quantities, to see a huge difference. 2020 is not 2016. Biden is more popular than Hilary Clinton and has regularly enjoyed a larger and more enduring lead. There are far fewer undecided voters, and those that there were in 2016 broke for Trump in a big way at the last moment (thanks Comey. Never forget that the carnage of the last several years is, in many ways, his fault). And I do think those undecided voters are far more likely to break for Biden than Trump. The world is on fire. We all know it. Trump came across (because he is) like someone whose response to putting out a fire is to try and smother it with gasoline. Biden was not inspiring. He was not a game changer. But when he could steal his moments he did come across as soothing. He did come across as an adult. He did come across as someone capable of feeling empathy. He was a human being, and at this point, simply being able to vote for a human being feels like a blessing.

My biggest takeaway from the debate and the reaction is this overwhelming sadness and disappointment that people are still supporting Trump, even after this. I have been trying really hard to understand, but I can't even try anymore. How do you support a man who refuses to say white supremacy is wrong, and then turns it around and says Democrats are bad, consistently seeking to divide our country, never offering a positive solution to anything, who's been wreaking havoc, lie after lie like an insane ego-maniac fucking clown? I don't understand and it makes me sad. Can someone explain it to me? Is it simply the fear of the "elite" left? Are they simply evil?

Dont bother listening to their explanations should they explain their support of him. Nothing makes sense in this world anymore.
I agree that the democrats should have let Sanders being president. Or Warren. They chose Biden instead.
A lot of what Trump does as politics is also happening in other parts of the world. The fake news, the hostility, the yelling. Thats whats really frightening for me.
