I've never understood why we should desire to be some group think circle jerk here. What's the fun in that?

Why did Biden claim he doesn't support the Green New Deal while his website says he does?

Where do you find that?
From what I can tell, The Environment is issue #46 of 48. And it doesn't say "green new deal."

There's a tweet by AOC that explains this

Biden believes the Green New Deal is a crucial framework for meeting the climate challenges we face. It powerfully captures two basic truths, which are at the core of his plan: (1) the United States urgently needs to embrace greater ambition on an epic scale to meet the scope of this challenge, and (2) our environment and our economy are completely and totally connected.

Apparently far fewer people watched this than the first Trump/Clinton debate in 2016.

Re: Election 2020
Politics is about building coalitions, and referring to a plan that has some overlaps with yours but also contains some items you oppose “a crucial framework” is perhaps the most generic way candidates navigate this.tree_ wrote:https://joebiden.com/climate-plan/#B wrote:Where do you find that?

That's interesting when you consider the virus has disabled normal life. We're basically a captive audience and we still don't watch.BurtReynolds wrote:Apparently far fewer people watched this than the first Trump/Clinton debate in 2016.

I feel like this makes a lot of sense if pretty much everyone's mind is already made up about this. What would be the point of watching? I mean, you could ask that question all on it's own, but especially what's the point if you're already 100 percent sure.BurtReynolds wrote:Apparently far fewer people watched this than the first Trump/Clinton debate in 2016.

Re: Election 2020
Not a lot of minds get made up on debate nights in any year. It’s mostly people tuning in to root for their team. But the narrative that comes out of it can sometimes be loud enough to affect polling in the final stretch.digster wrote:I feel like this makes a lot of sense if pretty much everyone's mind is already made up about this. I hear you. Reading that kind of ultra-hedged candidate-speak on a campaign website is a little like munching on a lettuce leaf: it feels like you didn’t consume anything at all.tree_ wrote:Yeah I think I missed the "crucial framework" part before.

Re: Election 2020
We should probably all agree on things like the virus being a real problem and racism being bad, but even that is a big stretch for some apparently.verb_to_trust wrote:I've never understood why we should desire to be some group think circle jerk here. What's the fun in that?
