Can we at least agree now how pointless some of these mitigation efforts are? This guy may have thought it was a hoax or whatever but he was tested daily and I'm sure his handlers have been strict about who has gotten to sit on his lap.

It underlines how easy some of the mitigation efforts are, and how absurd it is to be in opposition to them. If Trump and his staff were in the practice of wearing masks around each other, this may have started and ended with Hicks.

I mean this is the lib response that's all over Twitter--I don't wish the virus on anyone!--which is fine unless you've spent the last four years arguing that Trump is a world-historical threat to democracy who may be, even right now, trying to subvert free and fair elections. You have to pick one. Either you disagree with Trump on a purely formal level but don't find him personally reprehensible, or you think he is a uniquely bad influence on the world and support his removal by any means.

I rather him be removed by the people voting his dumb ass out but yea ill take whateve.r

I think a lot of people underestimate what a mess the next 4 months could be if he succumbs, or even what a mess the next month will be if he gets really sick and recovers.

Beyond that, I don’t want to get through all this just to live in a world where all the people now saying “He was down in 2016 too and look what happened” spend the rest of our lives pointing out that “Donald Trump was worse than (x) and technically no one ever beat him.”

Or where he gets turned from a conservative messiah into a conservative martyr.

If he doesn’t get worse than right now (the White House says he’s got mild symptoms), probably. But who cares? Nobody takes him at his word except his base. Clearly people don’t even really trust him when he admits he got COVID, exposed his Supreme Court nominee, attended a fundraiser, and tried to hide it from us.

They’ll make some strongman memes, polls won’t change, and we will have our best case scenario.
