This and eruption into You really got me. It's sad, it's also sad from everything I read, Eddie really struggled for the last 10-15 years. Getting through the 2015 was especially hard. It's just sad that he never made up with Sammy or Michael Anthony. I mean kicking Anthony out of the band because of his friendship with Hagar looks bad and always will. I hope for some vault stuff, but's unlikely, the VH brothers didn't like releasing live stuff. Right here, Right now live only came out mostly because of Hagar.

Diver down, which is a personal favorite of mine has to be the weirdest album they ever made, especially after WACF and FW. It has five covers, two instrumentals and then some orginal content. Big Bad Bill (is Sweet William now) being a favorite of mine.

I happened upon a few Roth-era VH live videos while poking around this morning, and Roth sounded universally awful on all of them -- they got some great takes out of him in the studio, but live it's clear that his musical performance was secondary to his stage presence, probably to the credit of the in-person performance but definitely to the detriment of creating releasable live music. Can't blame the VH bros. for not rushing to get any of this stuff out.

'So This Is Love?' is top five VH for me. Love that he started with the 'So this is love' line on "In A Simple Rhyme' from the previous album.
On Diver Down I am all about the first side. Good Times into Hang 'Em is a great one two punch. Secrets is my favorite from the album. Eddie had a way of making these licks that were all guitar but had such a playful lilt to them. I wish he was as happy in life as he sounded on guitar in this song.
I saw them on the Women and Children First tour. I was young and tripping so I can't vouch for how good they were but I had a great time. I will always remember during the encore Eddie taking a tumble while running across the stage and then just sitting there for a bit, looking like he was laughing about it.

I agree Michael Anthony's departure was because he was buddies with Sammy but I also think a huge part of that was Eddie wanting to play in a band with his son.

I think both of those but there may have been something else, too. Remember he had Michael’s name taken off ALL the credits for the music and took him off all the album art briefly. He had some real issues with Mike.
And I remember reading back 25 years ago he wanted to get rid of him in 80 or 81 and replace him with Billy Sheehan.
Ed also played all the bass parts on the Cherone album.

They basically had to keep Mike around for the backing vocals. Huge part of their sound.

Man, That must of been a great show, but you are like the tenth person I heard from that saw them from 78-82 who said they were insane live. My friend saw them open for Sabbath back in the late 70's and they blew them away the night he went.
