To the second theory, the main plot makes a lot more sense in a more realistic setting, where things like inertia or fuel would matter. Space battles would be treated more like submarine warfare than World War dogfights (which isn't realistic at all). This is why the main plot doesn't feel like Star Wars.

I'm just guessing that the starting point of the script was an old story idea that was kicked around by the writer for awhile before realizing it could kinda sorta work as a Star Wars movie.

My biggest problem with her? And leia?

Leia especially.

Who the fuck wears ball gowns in a war setting getting chased by a ship 60 miles wide

Even as I type that I think ok. Well why not.

But same time.

Leia was military gear in tfa. Ok last scene she’s royal. But makes no sense.

Holdo was perfect. Just styled wrong.

holdo as a character exists primarily for the impact she has on poe, which is well done. And I do think her brief scene with leia is powerful and humanizes the character, though that might be trading on Carrie Fisher’s death. The light speed ram is still visually stunning, but I agree had that been leia (or had she been a more important character it is even better)

in retrospect I wish it was leia - what a moment that would have been

Just finished this one with the kids. It's so good that it depresses me that TROS is the best they could do with the set-up. This one made TFA better, and prepared us for a truly epic new Star Wars world. I thought TROS was pretty good when I saw it, but after watching this, TROS looks like "Star Wars, Episode IX: Meh, OK. Here You Go, I Guess."
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

The more I think about it the better rians ending for Luke is. He gets to have the most powerful and true Jedi moment in the saga. And saves the day. All while not robbing anything from Rey.

That’s not just nicely done, it’s outstanding.

There are a million ways they could have handled Luke’s story and death better. Really poor the way it was done. A lot better in IX though.
