The analyze phish podcasts from years ago had some great moments. But auckerman was definitely grating and dickish most of the time

If you dorks want to rank the songs head to the outdated fan run message boards. Let the rest of us enjoy off center banter.

I'm so glad I went into episode 2 not knowing. I saw it was titled "77" and didn't put it together at all.Jorge wrote:ghost wrote:lol they bailed on RHCP in episode 2 and switched to talking Talking Heads instead.evenslow wrote:Listened to the first pod and hoooooly shit are the first two albums embarrassingly bad.
Would be really funny if they did the whole TH oeuvre and then came out of it like it was an extended side episode to finish RHCP.

I'm so happy with this turn of events, and yes I fully expect they will go back to RHCP at some point. Those early albums are just fucking atrociousevenslow wrote:I'm so glad I went into episode 2 not knowing. I love the chorus to Otherside so much. John's harmonies never get old!

Re: Behind The Sun: The Official RHCP Thread.
This used to be one of my favorite bands but haven't listened to them in years. Still excited about Frusciante's return.
Anyway...I listened to all their albums again this week and would rank them as follows!
01- BSSM: Reason why I started playing bass.
02- Californication: Formed my bassplaying to this day.
03- Uplift Mofo Party Plan: Aged suprisingly well. Just the only fun record where they were still a party band. Party indeed!
04- By the Way: Has some of my favorite songs. But half of the album feels like b-sides.
05- One Hot Minute: Very underrated. Yes, they do sound like Jane's Addiction. But both Flea and Chad play incredible
06- Mothers Milk: If only it would sound more like Mofo Party.... Don't like the guitar tones here. But some great songs!
07- Stadium Arcadium: Like 'By the Way' it feels like mostly b-sides and therefore bloathed. About 10 tracks are truly great, but the other 20 orso......
08- The Getaway: Sounds different and mature.
09- Im With You: Has some better songs than 'Getaway', but even more midtempo b-sides. That B-sides album sounds just as good...or bad...
10- Freaky styley: Better production than debut, but thats about it.
11- RHCP: Pfftt...Terrible performances and production. The demos with Jack Irons and Hillel sound soo much better.

Re: Behind The Sun: The Official RHCP Thread.
Ill check that site later!! great stuff.
For me:
1- BSSM: Sounds great, the perfect mix between funk and alternative rock.
2- Californication: The band was super inspired and it shows. It has that melodic element to it without going into bland pop.
3- One Hot Minute: Im such a big Janes fan this is probably why i rank this one so high. Navarro is doing wonders with the RHCP sound. Its heavy, its dark, psychadelic...masterpiece.
4- Mofo Uplift Party Plan: Jack Irons!! its a very cool and chill party album. Jack sounds great.
5- Mother's Milk: I dont quite like the production...the songs are there tough.
6- Freaky Styley: Another one with cool moments and some weird ones. The production is ok.
7- By The Way: some cool songs, but the beginning of the bland pop that i hate. Too long.
8- Im With You: There some good songs here and a lot of filler.
9- The Getaway: Again, some good songs and filler. Sounds good and sometimes super bland.
10- RHCP: not good.
Stadium: still havent finished it.

Re: Behind The Sun: The Official RHCP Thread.
Agreed. Another great b-side/ouutake is 'Gong Li':
This band has sooo many b-sides, it's weird they never released a 'Lost Dogs' compilation. And Im sure they have even more songs in the vault. It's not always great but I like that they just jam and try to be inspired in the moment, especially Flea.
