Re: Retrograde
Meh. It's a music video - most of them are pretty corny on some level. In my opinion, very few videos by anybody are actually any good. At least this one makes some sort of attempt at a positive message.darthvedder81 wrote:Song is still great, music video is still one of the worst thing's the band has ever done.

Re: Retrograde
This song continues to grow on me. I fucking love it. Today, it reminded me (for the first time) a lot of Amongst the Waves. I can just get carried away and lost in this tune.

Its relationship to AtW is one of the big reasons it doesn't click with me.durdencommatyler wrote:This song continues to grow on me. I fucking love it. Today, it reminded me (for the first time) a lot of Amongst the Waves. I can just get carried away and lost in this tune.

Mostly Ed's phrasing and vocal inflections in the verses. He oversings it.

Re: Retrograde
I think it's that both songs used to be a house of cards that subsequently turned into a reservoir. But don't quote me on that.

Re: Retrograde
The chorus feels very speed of sound to me. I can hear a somewhat similar cadence to Sirens or ATW in the verses (I think ATW has the best vocal melody of the 3). These are all good mid tempo songs that don't get too showy in their presentation

Re: Retrograde
god this song came on in a spotify run in between some vitalogy and Vs songs
oh man it sucks
and actually
the space-wave outtro jam sounded terrible
terrible i say
nothing interesting about this song
just Ed picking up a paycheck and Josh Evans trying to salvage a hunk of garbage at the end with way too much digital delay

The spacey outro is definitely the glaring weak point in the song for me.
I actually quite like the first half.

Re: Retrograde
this fucking song keeps coming back into my head
i have not listened to it since
but that catchy corny intro acoustic guitar is just there and i can't shake it
i am almost kind of starting to like it
like the way i would feel if 'YMCA' or 'Rock You Like a Hurricane' came on
in that it is a novelty and I have no actual respect for the song but nonetheless it is part of life now

Wait, I thought everybody here hated the first half but thought the song was redeemed by the outro?!Birds in Hell wrote:The spacey outro is definitely the glaring weak point in the song for me.

I'm confused.
