Vs. is weird for me too. From '93 to maybe '95, I thought Vs. was just amazing. At the time, I thought Vitalogy was a step down, and thought No Code was just weird. Since Yield, Vs. has just fallen down the rankings list for me. However, whenever I listen to it, I always enjoy it. Animal was my "gateway", and RVM is about as good as PJ gets.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:Even though vs is pretty low on my list, i love that album, though it could be because it was their first that i got the day it came out, but it is a great collection of songs@SkitchP wrote:Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:That is an amazing opening set. Im always interested in hearing about people getting into PJ later on in the catalog. Were you able to get into the first 4 albums pretty easy after yield brought you in?@SkitchP wrote:Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:What kinda stuff were you listening to before faithfull got you hooked?@SkitchP wrote:dkfan9 wrote:there's no way faithfull was skitch's gateway drug
It is.
Not Pearl Jam.
I was strictly a classic rock guy at that point. My friend had tried to make me listen to Pearl Jam a lot, and then used Given To Fly to try and convince me given my love of Zeppelin. Obviously I heard the similarities, but it didn't do much for me initially. But he kept forcing me to listen to the album, and it (still does actually) had a classic rock feel I kinda got into. It was actually the Brain of J/Faithfull/No Way opening that really hooked me, but Faithfull is the one that really stood out.
Ten and Vitalogy very easily. No Code somewhat. I honestly have never gotten that into Vs. I've maybe listened to Vs. 5 times all the way through- ever. Every time I have I say "man, i like Vs. more than I thought" and then never have the urge to listen to it. For me the gap between my top 3 (Vitalogy/Yield/Binaural) and the rest of the catalog is pretty huge.
re: Making friends listen to PJ. This is finally starting to pay-off somewhat. Right when my interest fades (kinda), they're praising the band. No Code, Yield, and Binaural all get love from them. The other day, one of 'em was telling me he bought Vs. and Binaural. I was proud.
