I like a few of the songs on Backspacer. But Amongst the Waves is the best of the bunch, for sure.Monkey_Driven wrote:I believe you two are alone on that island.epilogue wrote:PHATJ wrote:The only song on Backspacer worth listening to.epilogue wrote:You knew it was coming!

Re: PRAMG Top 10
Amongst the Waves is not a bad song. It's just a really good example of the band trying to achieve a type of slick, positive grandiosity that feels a bit more contrived when compared to the type of gritty, highly-charged grandiosity they used to achieve just by doing their thing. Who Ever Said is, in my opinion, a great example of the latter. That is unquestionably the type of Pearl Jam I prefer.

Re: PRAMG Top 10
Yeah, my list wouldn't literally be ten songs from Gigaton, but it almost could be. There's not a single song on it that couldn't credibly appear in a post-2002 top 10.Strat wrote:I tried this. I couldn't come up with anything definitive.
A majority of songs were from Gigaton.
I love pearl jam.
Warts and all.
Life Wasted, Parachutes, Come Back, Unthought Known, Lightning Bolt are the ones that would be trying to elbow out a few Gigaton tracks.

The contenders for me from this era are:
Gigaton
Cold Confession
Let It Ride
Come Back
Pendulum
Got Some
Hoping Gigaton was the start of a new, better era that goes through the 2020s.

If we're not counting pre-avocado and post Gigaton then I can't do it. I couldn't even do a top 5.The Town wrote:Was it released ≥ S/T and have terrible mixing and/or production; it's a PRAMG'er

Is it the songs themselves that don't do it for you?JuanHamm wrote:If we're not counting pre-avocado and post Gigaton then I can't do it. I couldn't even do a top 5.The Town wrote:Was it released ≥ S/T and have terrible mixing and/or production; it's a PRAMG'er

How much have you listened to acclaimed live versions and alternative studio versions like BrickwallHater and Spotify remasters of these?
Fair enough if you just don't like the song writing, but for me I seek out the 10 I posted on a regular basis when I'm wanting to listen to PJ.

Re: PRAMG Top 10
I have never listened to the other mixes of Avocado. It might help, but I really don't like the way Ed sings most of the album. Backspacr and Lightning Bolt don't even really register with me at all. I don't remember the last time I listened to BS and I don't think I even made it all the way through LB once. It's just a horrible parody of Pearl Jam.The Town wrote:Is it the songs themselves that don't do it for you?JuanHamm wrote:If we're not counting pre-avocado and post Gigaton then I can't do it. Gigaton feels like they've finally made a follow-up to Riot Act.

Re: PRAMG Top 10
is this thread about the low points? If thats so:
- Lightning Bolt: the album is the weakest. Sounds horrible and half of the album is half baked.
- Lightning Bolt: the song. Its should have been a classic and its not by a long shot.
- Matt´s drums in LB: Brendan hates him.
-Brendan´s sound in both Backspacer and LB
-Avocado mastering.

we talking about Amongst the Waves? nope, I really like it too (but I like several songs on Backspacer; it doesn't work as an album for me because stuff like Supersonic utterly ruins it)Monkey_Driven wrote:I believe you two are alone on that island.epilogue wrote:PHATJ wrote:The only song on Backspacer worth listening to.epilogue wrote:You knew it was coming!
