Guys, social distancing and masks with good hygiene works. Just look at what Melbourne has achieved. It's hard and it takes a toll but you cannot deny that it works.

What exactly is half of europe doing about this problem? Spell it out for me.
Locking down, drastically limiting their populations’ ability to move around and further spread the virus. Like to the houses of family, or friends.
So the same thing they did before? When they beat it, unlike us? They have to do that over again?
Yep, better than doing nothing like you propose.
I'm not going to pretend like I know your life but from what you've shared you have a newborn who is not old enough to be impacted by CPS clown education, have just quit your job and are on record as saying you would flee to Australia if things became intolerable. Do you even have a skin in the game?

Are you kidding me? Thank you, I’ll take this as confirmation that I’ve made my point because you have nothing left to spew. Please try to stop posting your bullshit to save what little credibility you may have left as a remotely intelligent and decent person.

The people that aren't skeptical about the effectiveness of lockdowns seem to be the ones who have been somewhat insulated from the negative impacts. We've all had to deal with negative things, sure, but the people really struggling aren't middle aged white guys posting on a pearl jam board. It's easy to be a stay home stay safe hero when you don't have to be out in the trenches.

I was out in the world five days a week for the entire pandemic until two weeks ago, and my views were the same then too.

But really, my situation doesn’t have much to do with this. There’s science behind my argument, whereas you’re just feeding your need to troll and not offering up anything of substance to back up your claims.

This isn’t easy for anyone; we’re all in this together and no one is unaffected. Remember that before you make a stupid, unsubstantiated post next time.

No. You’re bringing other variable elements into this. Forgetting any sacrifices and just looking at what works to stop the virus spread there is no argument.

However taking all those sacrifices into account you then have to ask is it worth it. And can the entire society be supported through it.

Real life is not a tightly controlled experiment on particle transmission. There are....other variables. The situation in the United States is not going to be controlled by masks and no dine in at Applebee's. That ship has sailed.

It could, though - even now.

But I agree it's very likely not realistic or feasible that the USA will adopt a nationwide Melbourne, VIC-style aggressive lockdown, e.g. mandatory masks; only permitted to go within 5km/3 miles of your home and only for authorised purposes; all non-essential businesses shut down; no traveling across state lines, all incoming travellers forced into quarantine.
Spoiler: show
Thank god I don't live in Melbourne.

Who exactly is claiming to be a hero for staying home?

Plenty of people who probably never felt all that heroic previously while being served tendies and posting on reddit in their moms basement?

Verb is confusing a few hundred assholes with Master's degrees on Twitter with a large segment of the population.
