Hey I'm still in this club... I just don't see the need to post daily to state it... Although it would help my post count :|
We are just posting a lot in here since some of us need to avoid the LB thread when too much specific talk about the songs is going on.....and to help our post counts
K... I'm gonna work on this... I'm going to boost my post count with this thread. I hope to be somewhere between where I am now, and Harmless by the end of it

I'm in the no leak club... however I don't know whether to listen to Sirens when it is released as a single tomorrow or to wait until the album drops in about 3 weeks time.
I have already listened to the live performances of Lightning Bolt and Future Days and the first single Mind Your Manners. I have also listened to the vignette snippets but they don't really reveal anything.

I'm leaning towards waiting but I'm not sure if I will end up doing that! Anyone else waiting until the album drops? Also is there anyone on here who has not listened to any of the songs including MYM?

I think everyone has listened to MYM but there are a few that have skipped everything else. I've heard the wrigley songs a few times, but i don't think ill listen to sirens, but i might change my mind Thursday

As they've been officially released, I wouldn't consider listening to MYM or Sirens as going against any "no leak" pledge.

I'm still in. And I'm really not tempted by anything at all. If I remember to tune into Sirens I probably will, but there's a good chance I won't hear it until it comes on when I'm driving somewhere. I dunno, being in this club isn't very difficult to me. I'll listen to the album when I have a copy in my hands, the same way I have with every album I've looked forward to my entire life.

But if you're tempted, hit me up and I'll distract you.

I am one of the few who has skipped everything else. But it is fucking killing me. Especially given all of the disagreement over Sirens. Argh.

I hope you can hang in there until the album drops. Seeing as you have got this far it would seem a shame to give in to the temptation now.
Just think how great it will be to hear the album fresh from start to finish. It is only about 3 weeks to go if I'm correct. I think you will be glad you waited!

Cheers!

I'll be listening Sirens (not the leak version, the proper one), mainly because it's an official release and we know the quality will be good. (Not chud good, but good enough for me).

Is it really that bad?

All of the 6 tracks I've heard (studio versions) I believe would benefit being heard within an album context. eg MYM sounds better to me after the transition from Getaway.

Sirens is sticking out as a different track but it has been isolated. If possible hold on and wait, it may be worthwhile. :D

I will say that it might not be the best second song to hear after MYM. It's a baffling second single but (in my humble and naive opinion) an amazing song.

You are probably the closest thing to a hardcore fan we have left amoungst the regular posters, so I don't consider your opinion naive at all. The little insinuations in this thread that Sirens is not PJ's attempt at November Rain but more like a bad Goo Goo Dolls song has me worried, but if you like it that means there is hope. I guess I'll find out tomorrow since I am more leak free than Pampers.

Spoiler: show
I can see the older rock influences in this song, and I'm positive that's what they were going for: Floyd, Springsteen etc.

The trouble is, if you're into a lot of old classic rock (as this band is) and don't listen to much of anything contemporary (and this band doesn't seem to, *especially* Mike), you're not necessarily going to be aware of how many bands and artists have sanitised, recycled and repackaged your favourite style for the radio in subsequent decades. There's a little bit of that here, where the band just probably doesn't even know it sounds like a radio hit, but BO'B absolutely does, so he's pounced on it.

But all that said, it still pushes the right buttons for me. It's 80s cheese in a sense, but it's also most definitely emotional rock music. It's got something that Backspacer never had, something that Pearl Jam haven't had for a long time imo -- heart. But I don't want my love for it to build it up for you, you might very likely hate it and I wouldn't blame you.

Yes. I literally can't believe it. One reason why I loved Pearl Jam in the first place is because I believed they would never make a song like this... I am stunned.

it's not a bad song. It's just a song that is very unlike anything we've heard before. some of the more thoughtful critics have said it is probably well executed for what it s. It's a question of whether or not you WANT pearl jam to write a song like this, and whether or not it'll move you.

It is definitely a song that takes a few listens to move past the shock of it

And it is a soft 80s influenced power ballad.

I feel as if we've had all the songs in the wrong order here. Everyone in this club is doing the right thing.
