You could be on to something. I have been applying grape spread to my speakers lately.mastaflatch wrote:maybe he was just confused because he was so hungry and wanted to eat jam?hlniv wrote:This will never be a radio hit. Could be a critical hit.PHATJ wrote:So initially, after one listen, I thought that I wasn't going to care much for this song. Then I listened again. And again. My itunes account says 18 times played now, and if I wasn't heading to bed it would just keep going up. I pretty much can't stop listening. Beautiful song. And the conversation about kids (I have three) rings incredibly true for me.
Also, I have a feeling that this song could be a major radio hit.
My two year old has been pointing to the speakers the last 2 days saying "jam?". He wants me to pick him up and jump around.
Kids are great

Put me off the whole album this.
Now I'm seeing everything through Enrique Iglesias colored glasses.
What.

Re: New Song (9.19.13): Sirens
After several taste tests, I can honestly say I am not scared of it being too cheesy anymore. It loses a great deal of that the more you listen.
It grabbed me early, though - I got all 'motional, then I backed off a bit to make sure I wasn't over-hyping it in my head. Safe to say it's an unexpected treasure, but there's no middle - you'll either love it or hate it. I just happen to love it, and I'm fairly jaded enough to know that I probably shouldn't. Oh well...

Re: New Song (9.19.13): Sirens
I mean this in the most respectful way possible: There is no way in hell that the widespread comparison of "Sirens" to an '80's power ballad is just some stupid self-fulfilling prophecy coming true because of those listening party reviews. (For what it's worth, those guys were going in blind, and they all arrived at this conclusion regardless.) I would be stunned if anyone proclaiming that they can't hear that influence in this song isn't either (a) just blissfully ignorant, or (b) being willfully obtuse.mkrowland16 wrote:I put that in quotes because it seems a lot of people are listening to it with too much of the hype and the early reviews saying it's a cheesy power ballad stuck in their heads. In fact, the main critiques of the song (besides the "it's shitty, awful, etc.") are that it is a cheesy 80's ballad. Just like most of the listening party reviews, almost word for word. Going in expecting a cheesy song, get out of it a cheesy song.
After one listen this is pretty much like the rest of the songs on "LB" for me--not without its merits, scattered fragments of beauty and whatnot, but ultimately just not there. I will agree that the production style--not to mention the guitar lead and the hideous falsetto--doesn't suit Pearl Jam well at all.
So far this is shaping up to be my least favorite Pearl Jam album by some distance.

So far I think the songs we've heard from this album make "Backspacer" sound like "Quadrophenia."

The bits I like from Backspacer are significantly better than everything I've heard from Lightning Bolt.

Got Some, Johnny Guitar, The End. Speed of Sound and Just Breathe if you can divorce the songs in their simplest forms from the bad production and arrangements on the album.WtOB? wrote:there are bits you like from backspacer? do you mean speed of sound?cutuphalfdead wrote:The bits I like from Backspacer are significantly better than everything I've heard from Lightning Bolt.

Metallica had it rude too when they've released their masterpiece video "ONE"!
