It's a commonly used phrase in American political speeches, referencing Abraham Lincoln's inaugural address. Fitting for the moment we are now in.

We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.

It was bad enough that we poisoned the brains of beltway types, but we exported this to foreigners? Oh no...

10 years from now the piece I'm looking forward to reading the most is the oral history of the Four Seasons press conference.

Did they actually hold the press conference? If they did I missed it.

I'm not the biggest Biden fan and I'm certain he will be a milquetoast president but there is a real sense of relief with this outcome.

I could’ve written this exact post.

We’ll all have plenty of time to digest this, no one’s immediate opinion on the specific results down ballot (and overall) will be necessarily be their final one. But Joe Biden had one job above all else - beat Trump. These results do suggest that “dem vs republicans” generally was even? Dems pick up a couple senators, gop picks up some house seats. But then there’s Biden vs Trump - not so close. Closer than some would have thought or wanted, but really not that close.
