Did you read the interview? She is literally responding to criticism, not instigating. The way this article frames it is dishonest and typical, even if you disagree with her assertions

Did nobody in the prediction thread have “Rudy Giuliani press conference in front of a landscaping company next to a dildo shop and a crematorium?”

That seems weird.

My favorite part of that press conference was that Rudy had to pause when a plane flying overhead drowned out his mic.

Don't let a little thing like the actual political context get in the way of a near psychotic focus on one of the youngest congresswomen.

I did. She is conflating her districts efforts and activists efforts at the presidential level with criticism from losses down ballot. Increased black turnout in Detroit and Philly probably helped at the Biden level, I don’t think we know that yet, but the red team held the statehouses there so was it really her birdbrain policy positions that drove things or just the distribution of mail-in ballots to people that wouldn’t otherwise have gotten them?

"Birdbrain" notwithstanding, this seems like a reasonable thing to think about if we are going to have conversations about ways states like Georgia, Arizona and to a lesser extant Texas can maintain a shift away from deep red in the next few cycles.

Anecdotal, but in my TX county (Harris), there was great success in beating the GOP's effort to suppress the vote. Record early voting despite one mail drop spot in all of Houston, extensively expanded early vote locations compared to 2016, a first-of-its-kind 24 hour polling option.

And still, the down ballot democrat returns were a mixed bag.

Also, I don't think anyone's begun to really unpack what happened in the rio grande valley yet.

Then there's Beto who it seems has become kind of a laughingstock in this state. There was a lot of hope that Hegar would beat Cornyn this year and redeem Beto's attempt to flip a senate seat, but her race was not close compared to Biden's statewide performance.

No, I don't think that higher democrat turnout in southern and border states will automatically lead to a more progressive America.

I think another question is we have no idea what the turnout this year means for future elections. This year, we saw record turnout on both sides, largely for the question about the next president. But Democrats boosted turnout in 2018 while Republicans (comparatively) stayed home. Do Democrats stay home now that there's not a Trump on the ballot, but does Tom Cotton or Larry Hogan really drive up the white working class vote to huge heights in the way Trump did? I get that a lot of people in the media need to have The Takes and have them soon, but I honestly have no idea what the answer to either of those questions are.

This is what the quotes from @AOC lead me to believe she does not understand or more likely is trying to redirect away from. Just because a progressive activist registered that person or helped them access their ballot does not mean that person automatically votes to support progressive causes and it's far easier to sell "vote out Trump" then it is to sell "abolish the police" (her intentional use of "Movement for Black Lives" in place of the riot-tainted "Black Lives Matter" is a tell).

And makes me wonder... was Trump was really the enemy of progressivism or the enabler?

I would guess it's more of column a than column b, but surely both are there. I think what she is speaking to resonates with a chunk of Biden's vote, just not very far outside of the progressive bubble. I'm all for AOC and the squad being where there are. Happy they got there and I'm sure they represent their constituents and broader fans well. It's just not a good strategy for the party as a whole IMO.

In this part of the country, even a dem distancing themselves from progressive messaging can feel the pushback. Progressives have got to understand that eventually.
When it came to issues, there was arguably none that Republicans bet bigger on than law enforcement. Abbott became obsessed with the “defund the police” movement after Austin cut its department’s budget by a third, and Republicans throughout the ballot worked strenuously to tie their Democratic opponents to the cause — which takes many forms — even if they had not declared support for it.

A fierce national debate over criminal justice reform escalated this year after George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police, leading some advocates to call for shifts in police funding. Republicans campaigned heavily on the issue, saying it shows a lack of Democratic support for law enforcement.

"If we lose the argument on whether [a Democratic candidate] wants to defund the police, we still win,” said Craig Murphy, a Republican consultant who was involved in the Texas House battle. “Because if the issue is whether you support the police or not, then I’m going with the Republican.”

Reluctant to let the Republicans dictate the terms of the conversation, some Democratic candidates declined to push back on the police-related attacks in a meaningful way. One exception was Wendy Davis, the Democratic challenger to U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Austin, who aired a direct-to-camera TV ad in which she said, “We need criminal justice reform, but I don’t support defunding the police.” Still, Roy persisted with claims she wanted to defund the police, including in his final TV ad, and won by a better-than-expected 7 points.
