I know it's the bands "fault" if they ask him to arrange song and it might be his job as a producer to do that but I can't help but get mad when I hear about "Bob helping arrange the songs". Why don't you ask the band to help you arrange the song?
I'm sorry, I don't want to start a BOB discussion again.

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
I know
At this point, I would much rather have an interviewer ask "What leads you to let a producer get so involved with the arrangements of your songs?"
Of course, the elephant in the room has always been that we have no idea what influence he had on the songs, even in the "golden years". Apparently they made those albums in spite of BO'B, but he must've done some of what he does, or they wouldn't have kept going back.
But, cards on the table: this is the way the band wants it. I don't. But I like these songs. That's it.

Jeff is the last bastion of hope in this band. Keep fighting the good fight Jeff. I dunno what stones doing, maybe he just flipped bob the bird and walked out after 'what is that riff?'Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:JeffVindicator wrote:God bless Jeff, he's responsible for the 3 dark songs on the album, Infallible, Yellow Moon and Pendulum.
I'd be interested to hear the sirens demo.

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
I've listened to Sirens about 7 times now. I really can't describe it better than most here have already--it's so "un-Pearl Jam" that I have this like morbid curiosity to repeats listens because I can't get over how weird it is to hear something like this from them. And I still don't know if that's a good thing or not. I still haven't gotten past the music and have absolutely no clue how Pink Floyd was Mike's inspiration here. That said, I think what keeps drawing me back are Ed's vocals. He knocked Sirens out of the park.
Again the fate of this one in my eyes will probably reside with how well it flows on the album's track list. I kind of had an idea before about what to expect from My Father's Son, now I'm totally clueless.
Thanks for summing up the MMM interview, too

I'm actually not sure whether the problem is that BO'B arranges the songs, or that Pearl Jam just admit it. Maybe the same happens with other bands but they just don't have the lack of shame to tell anyone.

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
I think the acoustic guitar and "Hear the sirens" at the start is quite Floyd. But that's because "Hear the sirens" sounds strange and surreal. The problem is, the rest of the song is anything but. It's a cheesy love song other than the slightest nod to the surrealism of Floyd.Revelator wrote:I've listened to Sirens about 7 times now.
