My guess is because it's so, so, so far removed from their typical comfort zone that it feels special in the catalog.

I like the song. It's not my favorite, but it's playing in my head. Sure it's a little cheesy-- love songs are difficult to write, and I certainly wouldn't call Ed anything close to a master lyricist, which is what you need to get this done properly-- but it's pretty and has its place. And I can respect the bravery of putting something so vulnerable out there.
Every time I listen to it I immediately forget how it goes and get Lightning Bolt, Swallowed Whole or Getaway stuck in my head instead

Those are more instant songs. Give it time, you might catch the bug.

The ending reminds me of this Anathema track which is weird because lyrically they end so differently. It has a similar melancholy but Sirens ends positively.

Skip to 2:30 to save time. This ended the album too. And these guys are hugely influenced by Pink Floyd.

I know what you mean. I really liked this, haven't heard them before. It's greatly helped by the backing vocal and the dreamy effects on the vocals. Actually I kind of wish Sirens had been covered in that stuff, it would've got closer to Floyd.

The lyrics and Ed's delivery on this song are exactly why this is not a typical 80s power ballad.
Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

But that solo. That guitar tone. That reverb. It's so unnecessary and doesn't serve the song at all. (maybe in a convertible played loud?)

I suspect good live version will add appreciation to this song.

I think this could be subtle, melancholy love ballad mixed with *cheesy 80s power ballad*, in the same way that NAIS is minor-chord acoustic power ballad mixed with sudden and jarring hard rock. Different styles being uncomfortably jammed together, same approach.

For anyone that might have iTunes match enabled, I threw the 128 kbps shit rip from that brazil site into itunes and it matched. The iTunes plus AAC version made me like this song quite a bit more than that shitty rip, there's a lot going on that's hard to make out on the lesser version.

I'd share it, but iTunes match downloads have email addresses embedded in them, but it's out there for you if you want it. Plus, iTunes match rules in general and it's only $25 a year.

They're from Liverpool and were doom metal in the early-mid 90s. Mellowed out and lost the growling vocals. Quite consistent albums and completely independent now (I believe). Here's one that has the mega guitar solo outro and is in the same sort of ballpark as Sirens. This was for their mother who died of cancer.
Spoiler: show
Back to Sirens, after hearing it a few more times the beauty of Ed's delivery is really coming to the fore. Maybe this is the killer track of their whole catalogue.

Well, it is *a* killer track of their entire catalogue. It's the only example of what it is, and for that, it's a classic worthy of any essential compilation from now on in my opinion.

I woke up at ten after midnight last night and I couldn't sleep, so I spent the rest of the darker hours walking around the neighborhood. That's been happening a lot, lately...sleep has been like Reagan-level teflon slippery.

It's 8:03 here, and I just hit a wall of some sort. My brain is mush. Anyway, I think I just had a waking dream that Pearl Jam released a clip of Ed in the studio building this song entirely out of Garageband clips. But it was like one of those children's learning game laptops, with the break-safe plastic and the big dog paws down the side. It was pretty fun.

I'm not sure what you're asking for a link to. As I said, the version I downloaded from iTunes has my account info in it, so I won't be sharing that. The 128 kbps version is from that brazil entertainment site, although that appears to be down.

Same. I was thinking it was obvious that I was asking for a link to the song on iTunes. That said I'm unlikely to get it as I'm in the UK.

I'm interested in hearing a lossless version of this, because I think it's probably missing something. I think I can hear background vocals which are too faint.

http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/

Basically, if iTunes matches a song you have to something on the iTunes servers, it gives you the iTunes plus version rather than upload what you have.

It's a great way to upgrade old mp3s, save space on your iPhone, the bands still get payed per stream and in this case, it matched a song that isn't technically out yet.

I guess the question for some people (since few are arguing that this isn't executed well for what it is) is whether 20 years out a song like this has a place (in moderation)
