More than 130 members of the Secret Service are self-isolating after testing positive for or being exposed to COVID-19 while traveling with Pres. Trump. The Washington Post reports that the exposure, which has affected about 10% of the security team, can be traced partly to large-scale campaign rallies held by Trump leading up to Election Day, where social distancing and mask-wearing guidelines were not enforced.

Other members of White House staff have also tested positive in recent days, including chief of staff Mark Meadows and HUD Sec. Ben Carson, as well as Trump campaign adviser Corey Lewandowski.

Trump also faced criticism for jeopardizing the health and safety of Secret Service agents when, while being treated for the coronavirus, he left Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to drive around and wave to supporters gathered outside the hospital.

At least two people were in the car with Trump during the ride. Dr. James Phillips, a physician at Walter Reed, was one of many medical experts to condemn Trump’s action. ‘Every single person in the vehicle during that completely unnecessary Presidential “drive-by” just now has to be quarantined for 14 days,’ Dr. Phillips tweeted. ‘They might get sick. They may die. For political theater. Commanded by Trump to put their lives at risk for theater. This is insanity.’
