It's a question of whether or not you WANT pearl jam to write a song like this, and whether or not it'll move you.

It is definitely a song that takes a few listens to move past the shock of it

And it is a soft 80s influenced power ballad.
An 80's influenced power ballad is exactly what it is, no arguing that.

I guess if you like extreme diversity in one record you may really love that this song is on there. Mind Your Manners and Sirens on the same album??? Who would have thunk.

Don't do it Sarge.
Is it really that bad?
I will say that it might not be the best second song to hear after MYM. It's a baffling second single but (in my humble and naive opinion) an amazing song.
As far as baffling singles go, wasn't Who You Are the launch single for No Code?

Yes. This band have a history of releasing the most unexpected songs as singles, and more or less the choice has had a "meh" reaction every time. But your reaction to this will not be "meh". You'll either fall in love with it in 1, or 5, or 10 listens, or you'll want to exorcise Pearl Jam from your life forever. This doesn't sound anything like Who You Are. It cares not for street cred. In that sense only is it anything like No Code.

Just so you guys know, you're definitely on the right track. Stay strong.

I regret listening to leaks this time around. Backspacer leaked as a high quality, full album. This one is coming in dribs and drabs and poor quality leaks which make it really hard to get a feel for the album. It's giving me an unbalanced feeling that I don't think I'd have if I just waited and experienced the album as a whole. That's complicated by things like the Future Days leak in incomplete and last week's leak is really flat. It's hard to evaluate a song when the recording sounds like crap.

Then I've jumbled everything together in order on a CD that is missing tracks 3, 6, 7, and 11, and my biggest woe is that it nothing fits together.

Tough it out guys. At least until you have a full album to listen to!
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

It'll be interesting to see how each camp rates the album when it's released. Mainly to see if hearing the leak changes someone's perception of the finished result.

Also, 5 years is a little optimistic for #11. I'd easily give it 15, since the band could take a hiatus after this album, and then reform to the finally make the epic double album we've been craving.

But in all seriousness, this could be the last album we get, either at all, or ever. So, while I respect other's choices to listen to the leaks (I've been there before with prior albums), I don't want to spoil this one.

i dont think they will be done, and i really dont think there will be another 4+ year wait for the next album, but i guess we will have to wait and see. but i can kinda see them getting together to write again fairly soon after the tour and maybe we get an album near the end of 2015 or beginning of 2016.

ok folks... as promised, i will try to boost my post count and keep the discussion in this thread going...
since Sirens is officially being released today, what's the consensus? i don't think i'll actively seek it out, but if it happens to come up oh the radio while i'm listening, i'll definitely crank it up..

so far, it's been very easy to stay in this club... while i'm excited to hear the new album, i have zero temptation to seek out any of the low quality rips of the leaked songs..

I don't know what the consensus is, but my plan hasn't changed. I'm not going to listen to Sirens or any other track until the album's out. The only tough thing so far has been trying to abstain from reading posts about the songs. Not doing a great job at that.

I'd prefer to wait until the album comes out but we'll see... If PJ provides a download to the official album version then I'll surely take the bait, but as far as seeking out the radio version that won't be hard at all to avoid... since I never go within 100 miles of a radio these days...

Luckily for me, I just got a shit ton of work dropped on me, so I don't have to agonize about this for the next 5 hours... Enjoy your day!

yeah, i think that might be the kicker for me, im not gonna listen to the PJ radio, and im not gonna listen to anyhting that pops up online in a random link, but if they give me a link to download it through the 10 club then i might go ahead and give it a listen, but probably just one and then forget it.

It will be tough to resist if the 10C spoonfeeds it to me in an email link. But, it'll be more fun to experience 11 songs I've never heard before.

Eh, for now, I'm going to give CC and Let It Ride a few spins. Its been about a few weeks since I've heard them.
