I've seen how varicella virus (chickenpox) is handled during manufacture. It has to be kept at -70C. You have to put on a coat and gloves and walk into a -30C room to access the -70C freezer. Then you can manipulate it for a short amount of time in the -30C room.
It's probably something very similar with the ultra low COVID.
