Re: Healthcare Thread (really "Sickcare" in America)
If I had to list the top 10 reasons I love living in Australia I'd guess that our Medicare system (where every Australian citizen has access to the medical treatment and pharmaceuticals they require, either free or at mandated low costs) would be top 3.
I personally pay for our families private cover as well, but that's because I am fortunate enough to be able to afford it and, having been heavily involved with the medical system these past few years, I like our family having choice over our treatments and Doctors etc.
But yeah, knowing that my family, my kids and myself will never have to face crippling medical debt, and knowing that medical assistance is there for us all if we need it, that's a huge plus.
I honestly don't understand the thought process behind thinking socialised medicine is a bad thing.

Yeah I think if this had happened back in October we'd be looking at candidate Bernie Sanders right now.
I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd.

Re: Healthcare Thread (really "Sickcare" in America)
I've spent an hour on the phone with my doctor, my health insurance, and my dental insurance trying to figure out how much I'm going to owe for a procedure I'm getting. I need to know so that I can adjust my flexible spending account while I'm in open enrollment.
An hour in, I know nothing.
If Joe Biden completely blows up private insurance. I'm OK with that. There is NOTHING in this system that I like. I don't even find anything tolerable.

Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Lots of hypotheticals in this thread.simple schoolboy wrote: On your pharmaceutical social credit score.
The issue is people over prescribing. Too many hands in the drug cocktail pot. Just like he describes. Dentist, primary, and then whomever else you see.
It should all flow thru Psychiatry.

Seconded.
For what it's worth I choose a high deductible plan so I can have the HSA instead.
They should eliminate the FSA altogether and let anyone in any plan type contribute to an HSA. It is complete crap that you cannot roll over FSA dollars.
Our whole healthcare system is a gigantic pile of dog squeeze that needs to be thrown out.

This. Change the system, completely, fully and immediately.
This is the worst health care system for developed countries in the universe.

I am so glad I’m in the minority. I pay 0 for medical benefits and in the 16 months I’ve worked for my current employer I’ve wracked up close to 180k and paid zilch

My wife's employer changed her health care plan when she was 5 months pregnant. Went from around $250 charge for the delivery to $2,500-3,000.
Cool cool.

Walmart unveils low-price insulin as more patients with diabetes struggle to pay for drug
I’d wager this will do more to help black lives than all the protests last year did
