That's why you self-isolate for 14 days if you have known close contact with someone who has Covid. Having symptoms is not what should make you think about self-isolating, it is the close contact that should make you self-isolate.Strat wrote:Because you can have the virus without showing symptoms?surfndestroy wrote:Why get tested if you show no symptoms. 1) If you're scheduled a test, you're going into an environment where they've prepared to have potential COVID cases and test them safely. It will probably even be a drive-thru situation.
2) You will know if you do or do not have it. That might be worth a piece of mind next month b/c you won't worry about getting sick or getting a loved one sick.
3) Your positive test will activate tracing staff who can talk to you about where you've been and can call people who you may have infected prior to thinking you had COVID and get them either tested or into isolation. That's how we stop transmission.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Fair enough, change my word choice to "slow transmission."verb_to_trust wrote:There's no way to stop transmission anymore.

All good points. In our public healthcare environment it just doesn't support (financially or capacity) non-symptomatic testing. If you are living with someone who has it or have a known close contact just self-isolate for 14 days.B wrote:So, here's why ....surfndestroy wrote:Why get tested if you show no symptoms. Public healthcare is great but is has both financial and capacity limits, and is highly unionized that makes it ability to offer services in a new way very slow to come about. Hell, we don't even offer drive through testing.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
That's so frustrating. Not testing for asymptomatic testing is the same as not testing at all. If someone comes to you with difficulty breathing and a fever, they have COVID. You barely need to test, and they've already been spreading it for a week minimum.surfndestroy wrote:All good points. I was listening to an NPR expert on how Trump's interference with vaccine development is troubling. I almost laughed. The bureaucrats at the FDA are the ones slow rolling shit and absolutely refusing to remove red tape. Are they really going to cave in to Trump? The needless deaths of so many hasn't bothered them, why should Trump?

Well, FDA has two, very good reasons for not skipping their scrutiny.simple schoolboy wrote:I was listening to an NPR expert on how Trump's interference with vaccine development is troubling. 1) If the vaccine starts killing people or has some side effect that makes people avoid it, we're good and truly fucked.
2) If people don't trust that the vaccine has been vetted properly, they won't take it, and we're good and truly fucked.
The vaccine has to be safe and effective, and people have to believe that, or we're just going to be letting COVID run it's course and wipe out 3 million Americans or leave us locked in our house forever.

If they haven't been bothered to clarify the treatment guidelines for Remedesvir and are making home tests require prescriptions, we can pretty safely be assured that something with potential risk involved won't be streamlined.B wrote:Well, FDA has two, very good reasons for not skipping their scrutiny.simple schoolboy wrote:I was listening to an NPR expert on how Trump's interference with vaccine development is troubling. They insist on making everything as painful as possible, even when the risk is insignificant. Require a pharmaceutical consult or something for a home test? Makes a bit more sense than an RX.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
I can't really speak to a prescription for the home tests, but I do know that my nurse friends laugh at the self-administered COVID tests at CVS and that's with a pharmacist watching you. It might have something to do with that.
Or it might have to do with some type of legislation that governs it. I know Republicans feel very strongly that Plan B should require a prescription, maybe they were going after that and fucked up other stuff as well.
This is all guessing.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
You're defaulting to some legislative issue? They are part and parcel of the administrative state. Congress made them, but they get to do pretty much whatever they want. Issue new guidance, re-interpret whatever (Provided they stick with the required notification and comment periods)B wrote:I can't really speak to a prescription for the home tests, but I do know that my nurse friends laugh at the self-administered COVID tests at CVS and that's with a pharmacist watching you. If there were a legislative issue, shouldn't they be urgently petitioning Congress to fix it? Seems like the FDA is fine with how things are going.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
You realize this is all new technology being used with a very rushed testing period. Risks and mitigation to risks are all theoretical. Thinking we really know about the safety of the vaccine is really just willful ignorance or wishful thinking.B wrote:The vaccine has to be safe and effective, and people have to believe that, or we're just going to be letting COVID run it's course and wipe out 3 million Americans or leave us locked in our house forever.
