Re: Eddie on Stern this AM
Finally finished this. Didn’t learn much new, and I think Stern put words into Ed’s mouth too many times, or didn’t let Ed really answer. But most of the time I enjoyed listening to it.

This. To this day one of the best interviewers ever (and only getting better).Strat wrote:Howard stern is the absolute best at what he does. Yea he can be crass though not nearly as much as his earlier years. He is absolutely brilliant at interviewing people. Every single one I’ve ever heard has been a joy to listen to. People trust him and he is good at taking their guard down.Jeez wrote:I don’t know much about Stern other than his reputation as a bit of a loudmouth but I think he managed the conversation really well. I just caught some of the video clips and Stern’s facial expressions were part admiration, part disbelief he’s finally talking to Ed. Really very genuine.
Great job, Howard, Robin and Ed. Fascinating stuff and maybe a pre cursor to further conversations.
Howard stern rules. The guy changed the face of radio

Sadly still no repost of the interview/link and I've messaged a few people who were unable to provide it.
Still would greatly appreciate someone re-sharing the link.

Re: Eddie on Stern this AM
I'm watching now, about halfway through the three hour interview - haven't read the rest of the discussion yet, but I didn't get the feeling Stern wouldn't let Eddie answer, I got the feeling Stern was trying to drag anything out of the guy because Eddie would just mumble and ramble without actually answering anything lol.Anders wrote:Finally finished this. Re: Eddie on Stern this AM
It really is a great interview though - and after the first half hour or so Eddie gets much more natural.
Stern does an amazing job.
Funnily enough I watched it with my mom, whos a big Stern fan (not his crass stuff, but his current interviews). She knows Pearl Jam is my favorite band but knows little about Eddie so it was informative for her. She left it saying he was a really cool guy and she liked him, and said he seemed very intelligent (which I thought was funny because I think Eddie isn't quite as smart as he thinks he is, but hey).
Also I had never heard Eddie's cover of "Keep me in Your Heart" nor did I know the story behind it, so that part really touched me....Eddie does still have a beautiful voice especially when he does prettier songs.

Re: Eddie on Stern this AM
The one question I started hoping for as the great interview unfolded was when did Ed know that he had a special voice. The lyrics and song writing were/are amazing, but that voice is top 10 in rock history. Probably like some of you, when I'd get a new bootleg I'd go right to Porch to hear how he brought the song back in after the extended bridge.

Yea I don't think you'd get a straight answer out of him on that but i'd love to hear him squirm trying to address it or even recognize he has it.
I think one of the few times he's even remotely acknowledged he has a great voice was in that Rollingstone Interview from 2006. He said something like he drinks alcohol as if he has a faucet over his head and "still watch me do this thing"
Or something.

yes, i loved this.
Ed seemed super into it, and Howard got him to talk. The Cornell moment is super powerful.

Re: Eddie on Stern this AM
this was the best interview EV's ever given. i'm glad it was with stern, i grew up listening to him with my dad. my dad was obviously awesome letting a 10 year old listen to stern lol.
i think the one thing I took away from this interview more than anything is how much ed's kids influence him. when stern asked him if he felt suicidal after Cornell died, he almost freaked out saying no, and a lot of that conversation was about their kids. they come up in almost every topic they cover. it's pretty cool to see him more relaxed and comfortable.
