I'm not the biggest sci-fi horror fan ever, but it sounds like this doesn't lack horror and the story sounds inventive enoughVinylGuy wrote:Oh fuck thats one im dying to see. Piola.
A nice chilean movie about some kids trying to rap and make a video. Its a coming of age story, its well shot, some cool moments with a very flawed script of really boring kids. Its a mixed bag.

Panquiaco.
A very reflexive, chill and contemplative movie from Panamá. Gorgeous photography and beautiful framing.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Started to make my way through my picks from the online edition of the Mar del Plata film festival, to escape VinylGuy's cruel judgment. By this point, several of the movies I wanted to see are no longer streaming on the festival's platform, but I was able to obtain a spreadsheet with links to the files. Started with Sophie Jones. Really lovely, reminds me of something you'd see at BAFICI. I was sure the lead actress was related to Anna Margaret Hollyman but no.
I miss the festival terribly, and it's nice to still have some connection to it through this format, but man it also makes me nostalgic. The BA horror film fest that starts next week will also be like this.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

On The Rocks.
Murray was excellent but overall another underperforming Sofia Coppola movie.

Re: What movies are you watching?
DirecTv is offering the premium channels free over the weekend so I'll get a chance to watch at least a couple movies from last year I'd missed. 1917 and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for sure and probably dvr a few more.

Rewatched They Shall Not Grow Old. Really amazing work on this one by Peter Jackson.
12th Man on Netflix. Pretty good WW2 movie set in Norway. Fairly predictable, but still a good watch.

You really think he was excellent? It was super autopilot for me. And the material sucked hard.Mickey wrote:On The Rocks.

I mean, I watched it at 1:30 in the morning after Thanksgiving, so take it with a grain of salt, but yeah I thought he singlehandedly turned an otherwise dull script into something watchable.VinylGuy wrote:You really think he was excellent? Which is to say I don't disagree on the material being shit.

Bill Murray, even on autopilot in a cliche Bill Murray role in a crappy movie, is still compelling. It's hard to feel that time spent with Bill Murray is wasted timeVinylGuy wrote:You really think he was excellent? It was super autopilot for me. I watched Happiest Season on Hulu. I really like Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis and I thought maybe it'd be a fun twist or subversion of the classic Xmas movie. But, nope, it's just terrible
