Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
I would like that theory, stupidmop, if people didn't hate Ed's songs as well. Some people just don't like PJ songs anymore. Which is fine, but it's that simple; whenever they don't like a song they'll invent a new excuse, and some of those excuses plainly contradict other ones. If Ed's not directing the band, he's writing "solo Ed songs" that people hate.

So, have finally heard this song. Only one listen in, this could be an Adele song. And I fuckin love Adele. Gonna take lots more listens for it to sink in though.

It seems like each new person to hear it finds a different reference point to share. And the answer is always "yes."Tuolumne wrote:So, have finally heard this song. Only one listen in, this could be an Adele song. And I fuckin love Adele. Gonna take lots more listens for it to sink in though.

Sure it is. Each person comes in and says "wow, it reminds me of...." And each time, there's a quality or a moment that does remind one of that artist. That's not an insult to the song. It's representative of how hard it is to get a grasp on what exactly it is.harmless wrote:This one's going on my list, because it's no truer now than it always was...McParadigm wrote:It seems like each new person to hear it finds a different reference point to share. Ah, OK. Fucking internet. I thought it was another attempt to prove it was generic.McParadigm wrote:Sure it is. Each person comes in and says "wow, it reminds me of...." I'm not getting the whole "generic" talk when it comes to Pearl Jam. They've ALWAYS been accused of being generic. From Day One. Eddie's vocals have always been what makes the band stands out. The band knows this.harmless wrote:Ah, OK. Fucking internet. I thought it was another attempt to prove it was generic.McParadigm wrote:Sure it is. It's weird how in that Mike interview, he says he saw Rogers Waters live and was going for a Pink Floyd vibe (and then BOB helped him arrange it). The solo is a little David Gilmore-y. Kind of.

I'd like to hear the "Sirens" demo, considering he said it was pretty different / less structuredFarmer John wrote:This is very true.McParadigm wrote:Sure it is. Also cool to hear him acknowledge Jeff's dark side... that's one of my favorite aspects of the entire band.

I think he has a partner (female). But don't think married, and no kidsgardenparty wrote:Sex on Legs doesn't appear interested in being tied down by all of that BSstip wrote:Is Jeff married/with children? He's the only one writing the darker songs, it seems. Maybe this really is the key variable.

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
Ironically, it's very plausible that he's a novice song-writer who had gold here, buried underneath a rubbish structure. It might be that BO'B genuinely brought it out, even if he sort of softened what was meant by a Pink Floyd influence. I mean, this song without BO'B's input might've been another Inside Job or Turning Mist. Thank God it wasn't. So whoever put this thing together, I think Mike's grateful that it went from pretty good to flipping great. I'm cutting BO'B some slack for this one; it's not the same as him fucking with Matt or Stone or Ed songs. I'm hoping no one touches a Jeff song if they value their lives though.Farmer John wrote:This is very true.McParadigm wrote:Sure it is. Each person comes in and says "wow, it reminds me of...."
