Painted Shield (Painted Shield 2 on 4/22/22)

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

No luck on the splatter vinyl in Chapel Hill.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

This record sound great! Not all the songs work and Mason is not a great singer like Eddie or even Shawn but there are some bangers on it!
'Time machine' is still my favorite.

After a first listen, yeah im loving this one. Sounds so fucking good yeah. And i agree that Mason is not on the same level than Ed or Shawn but i like is deadpan approach on most of the songs.

Orphan Ghost, Ten Years From Now are so good.

I guess Loose groove has some getting printed up for 2021. Probably black though.

I don't like this

horrible singer, bad lyrics

one or two chord drone throughout with zero changes

lots of cool weird distortion effects on everything to cover up the fact there's nothing going on

the drum n bass drum part is fine but it seems thrown in to add some "cool"

idk it had some nice Led Zep / T-Rex psychedelia in there but I'd rather listen to either of those

I'll take the new Gigaton era instead :)

Gigaton is the aural equivalent of a gas station bathroom that has just been mopped with bleach. Oh, and eddie can't sing either.

I'm digging this entire record. I've always enjoyed Stone's style, from Fuckin' Up solos, to songs like Buckle Up. Painted Shield sounds great on first listen.

Ten Years was probably cooler before Stone told Mason to make it into a mellow old guy rumination. It's a Pearl Jam member's natural instinct to make a song worse usually.

Joseph Arthur doesn't have a great voice either. Doesn't mean RNDM isn't better than PRAMG Pearl Jam.

Reading that Kerrang! interview made me wish Ed and Stone would do more song writing sessions, just the two of them. When I first got into PJ, back in 1994, I thought we were in for a Lennon/McCartney type thing.

Strat, I'm digging Mason Jennings and appreciate your recent posts.
