Most people probably still think the Jedi are some kind of fantasy beings like unicorns.
Also agree yeah. The galaxy is so fucking huge, its going to take years. Besides we dont really know what they said about it...in TFA it seems everything that happened with Luke is sort of a mythos/legend.
Interesting point. In one of the books (think it was Bloodline? Someone please correct me), they specifically talked about the fact that the crumbling empire ran a propaganda/disinformation campaign, to the point where they insisted, for a time, that the Emperor had not, in fact, fallen, and that things were fine.

It's entirely possible that there are far corners of the galaxy which would not only be unaware of the finer details of what went down, but, wouldn't even know that the empire had fallen.
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

I don’t remember the specifics but he and leia are known galaxy side at this point. Bloodline. Has leia as a prominent leader of the republic and she gets outed as Vader’s daughter. And Luke. There’s a furore and she leaves forming the resistance as she’s aware the first order are forming and political factions within the senate are working to bring the empire back.
Young Ben learns about This over the News/holonet and is devastated as he was never told and off he goes to the damage races.
It why han left too. Couldn’t deal with the glare.
Luke is definitely a known quantity galaxy wide at this stage.

Thanks for the Bloodline refresher, dime. Been a while.
Did I imagine the bit about the empire claiming Sheev was alive & well after the fact, or was that a different book altogether?

I just looked at Bloodline’s entry on Wikipedia and it says it’s set 25 years after RotJ. Sure, by that time I can see Luke and Lena (Han and Chewbacca too, probably) being widely known, but not 5 years after. That just seems too soon.

There was an ongoing propaganda campaign saying the emperor is fine and fuck those rebels.
It culminated in lost stars and aftermath when the empire are finally defeated and admit defeat (and large sections bails off into the unknown regions as per Palpatines instruction to rebuild)
They ran the same propaganda about the Jedi saying they’re terrorists and that’s why the Jedi are all but forgotten by the time we meet Rey.

And people say Star Wars doesn’t do world building.

Leia is a prominent senator in the new republic galactic Senate.
Ben is off with Luke travelling the galaxy.
They both get outed as Vader’s children in the senate. It’s a huge big deal galaxy wide.
Revealed as Daughter and son of the dark lord and emperors right hand. And the most evil of all.

That’s a Short synopsis Of the book. Even or especially if it’s only five years later, it’s actually worse for them both. Scandal true or false sticks forever. You can’t scrape it off.

OK, the Info was up there somewhere in my alcohol-soaked brain. I had the wrong book. Thanks, dime.

Nothing against Chuck Wendig as a writer, but, those Aftermath books didn't do much for me.
Good parts, but, overall, not very memorable, IMO.

Bloodlines, on the other hand? One of the greatest Leia stories ever written. I should have remembered more.

As for Luke? I'm trying to rationalize my way around this, but, I'm still not seeing it. Not long to find out now.
