That strikes me as the worst of all worlds, workflow wise. Like might actually result in decreased productivity without any significant decrease in transmission.

We are split up into groups. I think the idea is if someone gets sick you don't have to quarantine the whole group at once.

You are right that productivity is terrible at home though. I'm constantly doing the dishes, getting a run in on the treadmill, ect. It's a joke.

How is "everyone" working from home in Australia? All you need are white collar jobs to keep things moving down there?

To be clear, I mean "everyone" in my workplace.

I hate working from home, I would prefer to be at the office.

If its 100% WFH, it seems like most employers are reporting a small gain or no net difference in productivity (you can go on the treadmill or run the dishes in the hour you would have lost on commuting). The switching back and forth is what makes things difficult, I would think.

You are doing the cohort thing the schools want to try? How does that work? Must be a niche field that works in (if it works).

I’m lucky my glasses are only needed for driving to see far distances. I tried contacts but putting things in my eye was an issue (didn’t get glasses until 48)

I’m working from home 100% and can go into the office IF I log in and select a day at least 24 hours ahead of time. If there is already 10% staff scheduled that day I want to go in then I cannot.

They were looking at us going in the first of the year to a regular schedule but that has been changed to after the first quarter if not beginning of summer.

Three times a week they have a company there who sanitizes all the public areas and once a week they sanitize the whole office.

As far as productivity goes there hasn’t really been a slippage and more than likely has been a gain. People aren’t worn out from driving into/out of the city and dealing with traffic. Can also sleep in a little more due to that. Plus people work longer days with more down time during the day to deal with kids/personal errands and appointments.

I was only at my company for I think it was 16 days before we were told to stay home so while I know some people I didn’t have a lot of interaction with them. Zoom meetings have helped me to get to know people by face/name and allowed personal interactions one on one but I think everyone in the office misses the physical interaction and I am pretty sure the company will sponsor a welcome back party when this Is all over

Maybe the last part but I don’t find it nearly as horrible as it could be (see my lost in the coworker thread in the dump)

I’m sure the lack of interaction in the workplace is a downer for a lot of people but for me I didn’t have a whole lot to begin with in that short period of time. The zoom meetings have helped me to get to know my office but I definitely would rather it be in person. This is one place where people genuinely get along and there are no cliques.

I am. It sucks and I can’t do mask and glasses. But I wear contacts for 95% of the time.

I get that. Mine fog up too but for the 30-40 minutes I’m in the grocery store I can get by without my glasses

As of earlier this week, our state government has mandated that surgical-grade masks must be worn in all healthcare environments.

Because I'm a public sector worker who is employed by our health service, that unfortunately includes my office - even though it's nowhere near any members of the public or patients, etc.

So I'm working from home (as is everyone else) because forget trying to wear a mask for 8+ hours a day while trying to work.

Getting back to your point, I wouldn't be able to read this computer screen without my glasses, the idea of going without them isn't going to fly.

Face shields in lieu of masks. Issue solved.

fridays we have a catered lunch. there are snacks (protein bars, fiber bars etc), water, bubly water, pop (soda for you heathens), fruit bowl, 4 or 5 varieties of dry cereal, almond and regular milk in the fridge, a dishwasher we load up ourselves and dishes are put away for us, a microwave.

factor in that everyone is friendly and talks to each other adds to it (mind you i was there for two weeks and they had a birthday cake and brownies for all birthdays for the month but i was the first they could recall who actually had a birthday on the last day of the month that they celebrate birthdays)

I work in shipping/receiving, so no working from home for me. Ever. Kind of jealous. My wife has been able to completely WFH since March, which is really nice when you have young children like we do.
