Pleasantly surprised by this "live" cut-together performance.

That was good. Barely different from the studio cut but I enjoyed it. I like the song "Cyr" a lot, haven't listened to the rest of the album yet

You're forgetting Mellon Collie. Also Machina sounds so much better than everything following it. The Pumpkins were clearly never meant to be shiny. Or oh, so bright.

I was hoping to give it a skim also, but it'll likely just be Howard kissing Billy's ass. It always is.VinylGuy wrote:Anyone recorded Billy's interview with Stern?

Mellon Collie sounds awesome. The best sounding album for them. And yes, Machina sounds better than the latter albums, but ruins a lot of songs from the album.Ello Sailor wrote:You're forgetting Mellon Collie. remember when single cd albums were 72 minutes (or even 80)? i guess the vinyl resurgence/cd decline really reverted the naming convention to pre-cd days.96583UP wrote:a 72-minute double album

Re: Crucify the Insincere: A Smashing Pumpkins Thread
After my first listen I love 'The Color of Love' and 'Save Your Tears'. 'Cyr' and 'Ramona' are pretty good. 'Birch Grove' and 'Anno Satana' are okay. The rest ranges from poor to hilariously poor.
It's very samey, isn't it? I'll try to give it another chance, but this clearly didn't need to be a double album.

Re: Crucify the Insincere: A Smashing Pumpkins Thread
So this thing has grown on me considerably. It's definitely a headphones album. Sure it suffers from Corgan word salad, and many songs seem hookless on first listen, but it just sounds so good. I cannot get over how beautiful the backing vocals throughout, by Sierra Swan and Katie Cole, are.
I can understand why a lot of fans of 88-00 Pumpkins wouldn't like it, though. It's closer to Billy's 2005 solo record TheFutureEmbrace than The Smashing Pumpkins in sound.

Re: Crucify the Insincere: A Smashing Pumpkins Thread
A first try to the best of SP 2.0. Trying to do a short list.
1. Doomsday Clock
2. Freak
3. Superchrist
4. Slivery Sometimes (ghosts)
5. Being Beige
6. The Celestials
7. G.L.O.W.
8. United States
9. Marchin On
10. Cyr
11. Owata
12. Gossamer
13. Zeitgeist
Maybe Minerva belongs there. There are many songs from Zeitgeist i could add, some more from Teargarden..Oceania and Monumets not so much. CYR is too new.

Re: Crucify the Insincere: A Smashing Pumpkins Thread
Great job, VG. Couple thoughts:
I could never get into Doomsday Clock because the doubled vocals in the chorus sound off key to me, almost like Billy is parodying himself.
Tiberius, One and All, Drum + Fife & Dorian are all > Being Beige.
Silvery Sometimes and Marchin' On are great calls. I can't really stand the album as a whole, but those two are bangers.
I wouldn't even know where to find a quality rip/stream of G.L.O.W and Superchrist. Also, is there a definitive live version of Gossamer you would use?
No 'Starz'?

Re: Crucify the Insincere: A Smashing Pumpkins Thread
I get what you say about DC, all the songs on Zeitgeist have a weird sonic moment. I just love the intro, Jimmy´s wild drums, and that broooom with the guitars...I remember when i first put the cd and i felt fuck yeah! I love the song for it.
As for those Monuments songs...well, Being Beige is the most accesible one and i was thinking also about the list. Maybe Tiberius could be there yeah.
GLOW and Superchrist...yeah, i had some mp3 back in the day, but its a shame those two are not on Spotify. They are fucking good. Gossamer...any live version...maybe the most official one is from If All Goes Wrong?
No Starz.
Also do you remember a single he released that was featured on a car commercial? or a video game commercial? Sounded good...most of Teargarden sounded way better than i expected.
