Re: Gigaton: Official album thread
Is anyone else surprised that Gigaton hasn't featured on more best albums of 2020 lists? Or are those lists reserved for more of the same?

I believe it has more to do with timing of its release.

the culture is *heavily* tilted towards 2 groups - Boomers and Millenials. Boomers are the parents of the Millenials. GenX is generally the ignored middle child.

I'm not sure a new Pearl Jam album is very consequential for anyone outside of the Pearl Jam universe.
It's a big deal for (some) Pearl Jam fans, but the ripples don't really extend beyond the pond.

Re: Gigaton: Official album thread
yeah, for sure.
I think Matt said that the streaming numbers werent really huge for them or their peers, and he guessed that only artists like The Weekend or Taylor Swift really make money from that.
In terms of hype, they have for sure. Pretty much every music or art outlet gave PJ news or album review.

Yes, I think it's a combination of this and, at least in the States, it's release date coming at pretty much the same time that the severity of COVID was really starting to hit (daily deaths jumped by almost a thousand in just the week after it was released). I think it was hard for anything to really have much attention in that context in the U.S., and no one ever really went back to it.Birds in Hell wrote:I'm not sure a new Pearl Jam album is very consequential for anyone outside of the Pearl Jam universe.
