Seeing the band perform the song helped it fall in to place a little better. Instead of being confused I maybe sorta like it now.

This is where the healing begins. I was there once with you.

I don't mean I'm surprised, I just mean....why would you do that?
just like the 'live' amongst the waves track used for the video kicked the shit out of the studio cut
If you're predisposed to like the live version, it's likely you'll like this version. But it's a good song, right? ;)
There are maybe 4 songs ever in the history of the world that I preferred live to studio. As far as I'm concerned, the recording process is as big a part of the creation of a song as the initial writing...and I prefer the subtle nooks and crannies that can get picked up in a studio (Or barn. Or Nellcote.) that a live environment tends to repel or bury.

I was still in puke mode for the first 8 or 9 listens. I didn't have any change of opinion until I could isolate myself and concentrate on listening to this with lyrics in front of me through headphones.

This one takes some commitment and focus to enjoy. And I'm sure that means it will only be a song for a certain kind of moment. You can't play this while doing other things and expect to like it.

It was like a fucking train wreck i kept revisiting. Trying to wrap my head around it...

I finally was able to. Glad i put in the effort
Honestly, if i hadn't invested so much energy over the years into this band, no way would i have given this more than a couple of listens. Because of that history, I gave it a chance. Any other artist, and I'd still hate it.

However, on the flip side, it was most likely due to the fact that I had so much invested in the band that I was so taken back by what i was hearing. Just couldn't believe it. Just didn't feel like the music I grew to love from them over all those years.

But, the big picture is that I've always grown with the evolution of their music and vice versa. As I've matured and experienced life, their music somehow found a way to parallel it. It always has. I don't know why I thought this would be any different.

I totally agree. Unfortunately for many it's been the opposite with PJ for a long time now...

I happen to think The Who is as bad as Robbie Williams so I'm fine about it.
