I don't think it has anything to do with COVID. When has Pearl Jam been in end of the year lists the last time except for maybe in Rolling Stone?

Critics have always been split on them. Some wrote them off in the early days, some came around begrudgingly it seems.

Probably on account of that whole Nirvana v PJ bullshit. We've Kurt to thank for some of that.rick malone wrote:Critics have always been split on them. Some wrote them off in the early days, some came around begrudgingly it seems.

Re: Gigaton: Official album thread
It’s a good song but it doesn’t fit. Gigaton’s song structures sort of kick around and meander. The aesthetic created from it gives it a somewhat spacier vibe . Get It Back is more straightforward. It would fit better on Backspacer or Lightning Bolt, which isn’t meant as an insult. More in terms of fit. I would argue instead that a song like Of the Earth would have been a perfect fit.DeeDee wrote:Get it back should have made it on the album.

Nothing changes.
Well, it does: the album gets a little bit better.

Never Destination is a perfect fit in its spot. It provides a lighter chugging rhythm as a counterpoint to Alright and Seven O’Clock, two songs I enjoy but there needed to be a break from that heaviness thematically and the mid-tempo building going on there. It’s much needed levity.

Re: Gigaton: Official album thread
Yeah, Never Destination is one of the better "fun rockers" they've done in awhile. Doesn't take itself too seriously, but has enough interesting turns and stops to make it interesting.

I am also surprised that Gigaton is on very few 'best of 2020' lists....NOT
Please consider voting for me

I think Never Destination is below average.

It sounds to me like a slightly stretched out MFC. I always loved that song and quite like it on this album.
I also am not ashamed to say this was my favorite album this year.

Never destination rules. It’s the band having a blast and playing it loose which is a breath of fresh air after the last two albums. It’s also not punk. It’s quite rock n roll and very who like.
Love it.

Rearviewmirror rules, Last Exit rules, In Hiding rules, Quick Escape rules.
Never Destination doesn't rule.
Not at all.
