Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

I'm not going to make this *that thread*, but it is funny to hear KOL so washed in cheesy effects and people loving it. PJ does the same thing and they're shat on.

'Comeback Story' sounds like making love for the first time.

Rock City is a pretty cool little song. Love that bluesy guitar intro

This album kind of reminds me of U2's "All That You Can't Leave Behind". It encapsulates all of the previous styles the band has been through...while feeling fresh and new at the same time; feels like a collection of songs as opposed to an "album" (not a bad thing).

I love everything except for the bonus track "Last Mile Home". Who knows...maybe I just don't get it or it will grow on me. Right now, I think it's pure cheese...for whatever reason, it reminds me of Chris Rea's "Driving Home For Christmas". :haha:

The bonus tracks are just blatant reworkings of other songs.

Some of the album tracks are that as well, but it isn't so obvious.

Supersoaker - Comeback Story is a perfect run of songs.

Don't matter reminded me of old skool pearl jam a little, and then I got sad.

The faster ones I like the slower ones are meh. Whatever that funk thing is, is amazing.

I really hate that one song where he sounds like the guy from Cage the Elephant.

I think "Tonight" has a pretty epic chorus and an awesome breakdown and build-up.

As I said before, "Coming Back Again" sounds like vintage U2 (like something from 1980-84). It's got the tense momentum of "Indian Summer Sky" and the frenzy of something like "Electric Co".

This
A brief defense:

A. KOL songs are about getting drunk and fucking bitches and so on, so the silly stuff better fits the light tone. Hearing Ed wail away about Oh so important things on top of goofy cornball music just sounds overwrought and unintentionally hilarious.

B: production flourishes do not equal cheesy. Cheesy production flourishes equal cheesy.

C: as I said, I'm just a sucker for their sound, old and new. I'm not sure PJ ever had a signature sound, outside of Ed's voice, but regardless I don't like this backspacer/lightning bolt one.

A: Ed's earnestness was always a complaint from all sides. "Oh so important things on top of goofy cornball music just sounds overwrought and unintentionally hilarious" was what a lot of critics said about Ten, and every subsequent album until Riot Act. So I'm guessing you just miss the darkness, which is absolutely fine. KOL lyrics provide that darkness, but then I would argue so do Ed's sometimes. "Supersoaker" has nothing dark about it at all, neither do other KOL songs I could name.

B: That's true, but I could easily argue that KOL's production is often cheesy, and this Pearl Jam album's production is just full of "production flourishes" which do not equal cheesy.

C: I'm a sucker for everything KOL too. I don't agree about this album but, like, well, who cares?

Carry on enjoying this marvellous KOL album!

I don't really care what the critics said. It wasn't corny for me, at least then (in the case of Ten). Ten has worn a little, but there is nothing cheesy to me about Immortality or Sleight of Hand or most of their catalog. I don't get this idea from you that all their music is corny. Its not. Their last two albums are IMO. But its all relative, obviously. And KOL isn't dark, and I like it, so darkness has nothing to do with it.

I didn't say all their music is corny. This ain't middle-period Pearl Jam by any stretch.

I would bet big money that most of the people on this board who complain and make fun of Pearl Jam listen to Backspacer plenty and are digging this Lightning Bolt stuff. But they have to keep up the image.

I don't think I've ever cared much for a KOL b-side. I don't care for these bonus tracks much.
