He's the most hit-or-miss director I can think of. Going into his movies I have no idea if I'll love them or hate them.

Re: Rank a Director's Filmography
My issue with Nolan is that he both hits spectacularly and misses spectacularly in the same movie. The net result is that a lot of his stuff leaves me feeling like it was "fine". But for such an ambitious movie to swing hard and settle on "fine" feels like a real failure
Please consider voting for me

I would argue that this is because he's a bad director, or at least he's become one.BurtReynolds wrote:He's the most hit-or-miss director I can think of. Going into his movies I have no idea if I'll love them or hate them.

Absolutely loved Memento, Interstellar, Inception and The Prestige. The Batmans were okay. I still need to see Insomnia, Dunkirk and Tenet.

His films are huge. He is shooting on Imax with huge crews, the biggest stars...Action sequences, locations, everything is top notch.Mickey wrote:What do you mean by this? I don't disagree with that, I just don't think he's the only one, which means I'm not going spot him as many points for bad movies.VinylGuy wrote:His films are huge. Re: Rank a Director's Filmography
In terms of being able to produce and open original movies on that scale, I'm not sure there's all that many besides him; and I'm not saying that as a good or bad thing, I'm just saying besides someone like Spielberg or James Cameron, I'm not sure there's many directors who can say "here's an idea I came up with, I'll need $200 million and a July 4th release," and basically get carte blanche approval. That may not happen anymore because of how Tenet came out, but it was that way for a while.

I didn't even know that he directed Benjamin Button until about two weeks ago. I guess I should watch it.
