yeah this is concerning. hopefully enough vaccine can be produced to render these concerns mostly moot.B wrote:mmmmmm .... that's an oversimplification, but it's close. At least with respect to adherence to the tiers.spike wrote:so once these vials are sent to medical facilities, that's when the oversight ends?B wrote:No one's on anything. Don't mistake my knowledge for any sort of authority.spike wrote:Sounds like you’re all over it.B wrote:I'm pretty sure that I'll have the authority to make them sign a Provider Improvement Plan after we're allowed to visit them in person and review their records.spike wrote:If this is what you do, you should probably look into that.B wrote:I'm sure that happens. Long before we shipped all health departments and hospitals were asking if they could move onto their lower risk employees after their high risk were done.spike wrote:I think they’re being super conservative about the vaccine availability, to temper expectations. I’ve heard of employees who are admin and not in the ER or wards getting jabbed.
The answer was, "No, you need to offer this vaccine to high risk healthcare providers who don't work for you."
I'm totally sure that's what they're doing.
I don't suspect that Dr. John's kid is getting the vaccine, but they're are surely being liberal with their definition of high-risk healthcare providers.

I could be wrong. I just got asked to define an "invasive dental procedure." Fuck if I know, but someone was reading that prioritization document VERY closely.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I think line cutting stories are good. We need to create a real feeling of scarcity. Think Air Jordan release or Supreme. People will take this thing if they think they are missing out.

The elderly are just in 2nd place for priority, behind healthcare workers, so it could be worse. That they think its reasonable to share this as the justification for it is whats troubling. There are far better arguments for why they did what they did.
People with pre-existing conditions also shouldn't be too heavily favored for the vaccine because their diagnosis is evidence that they have access to healthcare, and therefore have privilege.

I suppose the privilege part is a bit editorial, but uh...E.H. Ruddock wrote:I hope this is sarcastic?simple schoolboy wrote:

So wait, the CDC is the one government agency that’s not systemically racist? I’m not buying it.

this is why having too many tiers isn't going to work; creates too many valid but conflicting ethical viewpoints that are impossible to reconcile.
they'll have to open the vax up to everyone a lot sooner than initially expected.

Well, looks like when the government controls healthcare there are race-based death panels after all.
