Jason Statham is a mystery to me. He has the chops to be a really great action guy. All he does is star in 3 action movies per year that pretty much nobody sees.

Im not blaming him, there is just no action directors like the old days.

started watching "The Pale Door" on Shudder - it looked like my cup of tea, but I turned it off after like 15 minutes, it was... weirdly bland

Yeah it had some good moments. Not as good as the original but some of the scenes were better.

1917. Some great camera work and editing to make several long shots appear seem less. Surprisingly little actual battle scenes for a war movie. Storyline picks up right away. I can see why it was popular with critics and on the awards circuit. Glad I saw it but not one I feel I want or need to see again.

Mickey wrote:I'm glad you didn't, we finished it today and it was *astonishingly, impressively* bad, it somehow managed to get worse in every scene. My favorite part was when Farrell and Chastain have a five minute fight scene and then he sits down in a chair just to rest for a little bit and is like "ah shit, you've got spunk, kiddo." One of the worst movies I've seen in years.
The thing that bugged me the most about the fight scenes, including the one you referenced. When she goes to choke out people, she's doing it all wrong

Alone.

welcome to John Hyams´s new masterpiece. The first half belongs up there with the best of the year. Amazing performances, great setting, great framing.
The end is alright, but loses steam.

Great movie.
