For me it's just about preserving the manner of experience an album that I am comfortable with and maximizes my enjoyment. Growing up in the 90's, when you were anticipating an album you had a single (sometimes two) that you dove into before the album was released. That process gave a definition to how I dug into albums I spent months looking forward to.

When the Manics were getting ready to release Know Your Enemy in 2001, four songs leaked from it a few months before, and I gladly jumped on them. They ended up playing another four or five on the radio before it came out, and I made it a point to find copies of those online as well. When the album actually came out, I realized I'd already become familiar with more than half of it, and it definitely put a damper on an experience that I had fallen in love with. After that, I've always stuck to "Is this something I would have had access to in advance of an album when I was a kid?" as a rule of thumb. It works for me, and I never really find myself wanting to "cheat." I don't begrudge people who jump on everything immediately, or those who do the complete opposite. I hope everybody does what works best for them.

That being said, I do think it's kinda cool to see I'm not the only person who feels this way.

Well said. I'm in the same boat with you, and mostly want to get the most out of my discovery phase with the album. I'd like to believe that it's carefully tracked to work well together, so that's another element of how you experience each track for the first time. I like the analogy of being in the 90's...

If we were in the 90's, we would now know 3 of the songs (MYM, Sirens and SBM kinda). Unless you were a very connected tape trader, you wouldn't have heard LB or FD. Even post-internet my average pre-album awareness tends to be in the 2-3 song range and I'm good with that. I suppose it's all a matter of your own personal no leak club rules. No we can go back to not talking about the leaks...

im really glad i only listened to the singles...this record is still a mystery to me, both songs are so different from the other; its amazing.

Im not gonna listen to it anymore after my 2 listens this afternoon, but i really liked what i heard with sirens, i don't really remember any lyrics or any exacts of the music, but i keep thinking about it

That's what's I've realized most about this song. After listening to MYM a few times, I could hum the melodies, sing the lyrics, etc etc.
After a fair amount of listens to Sirens, I don't necessarily remember any melodies or chords or words (except "hear the sirens"), instead I remember the feeling I have when listening

Hey guys, I'm actually really glad that I listened to Sirens. I was surprised to find out that I actually like it. I'm not crazy about it, but I certainly liked it better on first listen than some other PJ singles in the past. I think getting a little taste of it now will really help me fully digest it when I sit down with the full-length album.

I'm a little bit in Doc's camp in that I will just give this a few listens to get a taste for it and then pack it away so that everything is fresh for my first listen to the full album. Yep, only the official video so far. It's great, it's a little fluffy around the edges in terms of production, but it works for me. It's not nauseatingly soft like JB, and didn't miss it's target like ATW did (by miles).

I can see what they were aiming for, and have nailed it with shit hot fire.
