The V is an inverted A in the logo. Also, Tom DeLonge has a daughter named Ava, so he designed the logo to incorporate her name into it.

That first Angels and Airwaves song came out when I was in high school and I remember the local Methodist youth group tried to make it into this metaphor for becoming a Christian.
