We're not going to acknowledge at all that is mostly a wink/nod to fans for Chewie not receiving a medal at the end of A New Hope? I don't believe Han would hang onto or care about a medal like that at all.
Y'all know that I'm a full ST apologist. I'll defend this shit all day, every day. Furthermore, I don't care about fan service. And I'm confident that most of what people think is fan service just isn't.

But, yeah, Chewie getting that medal was fan service.
SHITTY fan service, b/c real fans know that Chewie DID get a medal, and he gave it to some dumb kid in the comics.

When I was looking up that last comic, I found that even in Legends, he got his own medal.

The profundity of acting portrayed in each of these screams knows no bounds. He was truly pulling from emotional depths previously unfathomable. How he avoided an Oscar is beyond me.

This movie is better than almost every Scorsese movie. And half as loud as most of them.

This movie isn't even as good as any of the prequels. I don't know what you are talking about.

This movie is better than the prequels.

It's also better than two thirds of the originals.
