Even $600 is harmful to your best interests in the long run, guys. Don't fall for it.

I'll keep mine in savings, of course. If I end up owing taxes after this year it will go to that, so I guess in a way I could potentially be giving it back?

What I do with stimulus doesn't change the fact that I think sporadic individual payments in small amounts is less helpful than using that cash to help businesses operate safer and more efficiently in a pandemic. But I'm no economist.

i agree!
I would support more money toward helping businesses operate more safely if I thought most businesses would give a fuck. I can count on 1 hand the number of stores that have done more than hang a sheet of plastic and put tape on the floor.

And the big chains around here even pulled the tape up off the floor the second that the Governor's order didn't specifically state it as required.

How about giving businesses that can't be open money to pay rent and to pay their employees so they don't lay them off?

What exactly do you expect businesses to spend the money on that would help B? Virus is gonna virus.

Sucks that businesses in your area are like that, B. Is it really all of them, though? If not, would you consider only supporting businesses that are operating safely?

A lot of businesses are doing what they can with what they have to keep people in the building, and unfortunately currently that means it is in their best financial interest to spend less operating costs on PPE and loosen restrictions so guests can "feel normal."

A stimulus more focused on getting more PPE to businesses, access to on-site or rapid testing avenues for employees, more vaccines to individuals, and rent and mortgage relief to businesses owners are all ways towards a more sustainable long term economy than just giving money to people.

Actually getting people back to work and keeping them safe while we get there is what I consider forward momentum. Anything less feels like a bailout, and a cheap one at that.

Remodeling to open space.
Supply customers masks and sanitizer .
Hire more cleaning staff.
Pay employees who have to quarantine.
New signage.
Pay employees to be off the floor training on new protocols.
Hire staff to work the door.
Heaters and shelters to move customers outside.
Invest in mail, shipping, or take out infràstucture.

Maybe someone who is smarter than me can spend more than 2 minutes on a better list than that.

That list can mostly be done without a big daddy government check. A door man? Fucking why? So some poor teenager can get breathed on by every single person that comes in? Build a new enclosed restaurant that is "outside"?

No.

But it is the big stores that can afford to do better and don't.

My local record store and beer shop are on point and doing a damn fine job. Record store limits how many people come in, forces you to sanitize your hands, and then gives you gloves before you touch any records.

Walmart and Target and Harris Teeter stopped giving a shit.

To enforce masks at a minimum.

If you want money, put an adult with a minimum of training up there, and pay them a premium for the risk.

You're not so stupid as to think that's what I'm suggesting.
