They just started in a hole where they felt "new" even though they were much older.
Well, it certainly doesn't help that the availability of S/T has been severely limited since the day the original pressing went out of print in 1999 or whenever. They put out an expanded version at some point but it appears to be even more scarce than the original! It's clearly not a priority for Josh to make sure this album is available. Is it even on iTunes or whatnot?

No clue. I managed to find a used CD copy once I realized it was something I had to have. It's not the expanded version though.

I agree with verb all too often these days. It's unsettling.

It’s in steaming services.

Musically it’s a fantastic listen. I think for me and why it isn’t near the upper echelon is that with the subsequent albums josh learned how to write more succinct and catchy tunes. More flecisise melody’s and phrases. Kind of perfected on songs for the deaf.

It happens to many song writers I think. Early in they don’t know really what they’re doing then they get a bit of success and radio play starts to creep into their minds. The music becomes less natural and unique and more forced ?

Jeff ament in pj20 talks about Jeremy and how they didn’t know how to write songs and it’s basically just a jam in A. Well shit that’s one of their absolute best songs

I don’t know.

Everything past songs for the deaf is hit or miss
But the hits are Fucking sexy and catchy as hell. Like clockwork feels like a complete artistic footprint and a natural evolution to an aging rocker.

The last one sucked.

Even as a newer fan late to the party with this band, it's hard to see the last album as anything but low quality in relation to everything else that they've produced.

ST was reissued in 2011. I remember bookshelf who used to post here hooked me up with a link.

I bought Self-Titled after hearing the band do an interview on the radio about 2am on the local radio station back in late Dec '98. I was listening to it on my walkman and they played "If Only" and I immediately knew I had to have it. I think that CD may have been one of the first things I ever purchased from Amazon. They became one of my top favorite bands that year. What an album.

There was a reissue with a different cover. I just mentioned it upthread.

The new cover is a "defaced" version of the original cover with a big CENSORED banner across it (similar to Bowie's "The Last Day" which had slightly defaced the "Heroes" sleeve).
