I’d be most worried about your own well being after using a construction site port-a-potty. Even in normal times.

You are probably reading surfndestroy's post, not mine. I only respond back when spike said it had "nothing to do with geography", which is obviously wrong given that it is impossible to separate quarantine and geography at the nation-state level.Norris wrote:Except when he played along (see: the UK) you essentially ceded the argument by acknowledging it's not geography but the people holding the levers of power that matter. And then you went right back to moving the goalposts on the definition of island. But you do you.Bi_3 wrote:Seriously. Who is so desperate to try and disprove something that they deconstruct the most broad interpretation and attack that instead of the core idea?Norris wrote:lol for realspike wrote:Bi_3 wrote:Well, I mean, it’s easier to implement border control policies when there is miles and miles of ocean between you and your nearest neighbor.spike wrote:Right, it’s the policies of those controlling the borders, and nothing to do with geography then.surfndestroy wrote:An island that handed over border control to the EU. Possibly that was a driving force behind Brexit.spike wrote:The UK is an island.Bi_3 wrote:Our problem was/is Trump, no question. But when you look at the globalized nations that have done well (Aus, NZ, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore) they have something in common beyond competent leaders... they are islands and thus can control human flow better than the EU or the AmericasPeeps wrote:while true how come countries like NZ and Australia have returned to some semblance of normal? sure if we had been warned ahead of time with a normal administration the US (and other countries) could have been out ahead of it. the fact that our administration downplayed everything and blatantly lied about it certainly didnt helpBi_3 wrote:Bro, there are literally 190+ countries other than China and the US that could have used that information to protect their citizens.B wrote:Even if that's true, at this point, hundreds of thousands of deaths are on our own hands at this point. If we'd have gotten a two month heads up, we could have been doing jack shit in January instead of doing jack shit in March.BurtReynolds wrote:"But also its the Covid-19 virus that the WHO downplayed in order to protect China."
What I posted is that its controlling the flow of humans that works and being an island make that waaaay easier. For example Manhattan is an island, and that did not do well in Covid at all, but . Remember how China stomped it out in Wuhan? They literally boarded people into their homes. They stopped the flow people in and out of the city to a scale where contact tracing was practical even with their massive population. The UK did not stop the flow of people, so their geography didnt protect them. We did not stop the flow of people from overseas, so our oceans didnt protect us.

I wonder if there is a NYT or HuffPo article to guide me through the stages of self-loathing associated with a maskless emergency construction site port-a-john event

That's fine. People still think they have a choice because it's early. When people realize they will not be getting their lives back until essentially zero covid they'll be asking to take it in their urethras.

1 out of every 16 people in the United States has, had, or died from the Corona. That's messed up

The point you're making is fine, but let's not pretend like there are actually real numbers out there to write these type of headlines.knee tunes wrote:1 out of every 16 people in the United States has, had, or died from the Corona. That's messed up

It wasn't a headline. It was math
1,000,000 divided by 60,355 (the cases per million number ,column 2nd to the right)
is 16.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
Our government is just making up rules at this point. All willy-nilly and then saying but science. Just today they changed last call fro drinks in bars and restaurants from 10pm to 8pm. I would love to see the science on that. For one day a year Covid is more transmittable between 8 and 10 pm. We have been in hard social lockdown for nearly two months, where your bubble is your household only. Our number of active cases and ER numbers have come way down. Then they pulls this shit. All I know is my table is going to look like at 7:55pm like it hasn’t since early 20’s, a wasteland of drinks. Will also have the emergency micky with me. What makes previously sensible politicians turn into jokers overnight?
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.
