Pearl Jam - Riot Act (reissue. My first in the series. We’ll see if I want to buy more of them).

There are two types of vinyl consumers.

People who buy it for quality reasons - and people who buy it for novelty.

Pearl Jam vinyl is fully intended for the latter.

Which is fine. But just be aware that there is very little care and quality control involved.

Which is hilarious considering all the snooty pro-vinyl posturing they were doing in the mid-90's.

It is rather unfortunate. Riot Act sounds good just because i think its generally a good sounding album but i dont think the Vinyl format did it any favors.

Additionally, when it comes to No Code and Yield i have to super adjust my tone knobs to make them listenable. They are the only albums where I have to adjust anything.

I picked up a purple Ten at Target. I don't need to listen to it. Maybe it's a collectible for me, but I'll probably just hold it for a long time and eventually sell it.

If that's the case, is it better to leave it in the shrink wrap or should I go ahead and open it?

Actually now about this: how about all the vinyl heads list their essential records — those that really benefit from the format.

I don’t care about your numbered/colored pressing signed by the artist. I want to know about the albums that sounds significantly better on vinyl than on CD or other digital.

Will be hard to compete with your HD streaming setup amirite

I want to know about the albums that sounds significantly better on vinyl than on CD or other digital.

Current album I enjoy much more on vinyl is Tame Impala's The Slow Rush. Other's include Pink Floyd - The Wall, Genesis - Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, just about all the older blues artists and reggae. I think blues and reggae really benefit from the sound of vinyl.

Biggest vinyl let down, Steven Wilson - Grace For Drowning.
